no one actually wants Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz as offensive coordinator. I would just love to see him replace Davis this season. I would also be satisfied seeing Davis replaced by a monkey, artificial intelligence, or Mario Verduzco.

I hope Brian replaces GD, no question.

If Doug is right and he could make actual changes, we'd see the team respond and grow leaps and bounds.

If not, it becomes obvious and undeniable that the problem isn't the OC, but the HC philosophy.

Oh, make no mistake, the problem is BOTH of them.

I'm too lazy to go through this entire thread so maybe this isn't original, but I would worry that a Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz promotion to OC would make his eventual transition to HC a foregone conclusion. Fuck that. I hate when teams restrict themselves to just just those with "close ties."

Maybe Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz will make a great HC (or OC), but I'd like Barta to do his due diligence before making that determination.

Not sure if that's possible.

I didn't mean obvious to us on HaLo. I meant obvious to UI staff, AD, and enough season ticket holders to make Kirk actually leave town.

If Kirk wanted to stay on in player development or some other type of advisorship I'd have no issues with it. I just want game planning, personnel, and the coordinators under someone with a brain and a spine.

I know. But people are stupid when it comes to their favorite teams. They have short memories. That's why you're seeing people pine for KOK when most wanted him fired a few years ago.
I wanted KOK fired a few years ago too. The fact is that Greg Davis is miles and miles below KOK's pedestrian level, the stats bear that out. That makes a choice between them easy, KOK all day. People don't actually want KOK back, they are making light of how awful GD is.

LOL. KOK was hamstrung by KF. Fact.

Anyone that knows anything about that situation or KOK's history knows this.

Now. I hate GDGD as much as anyone. But how much of it is KF? Its been widely reported GDGD wanted to give Rudock snaps during the JVB shit show.

My guess is GDGD wants Beathard.

A couple of years ago, many on here were constantly hating on Oregon's offense. Has that opinion changed for some?

I can honestly say that I didn't hate on KOK. I've been consistent in blaming that jackalope kf.

I definitely was a defender of KOK in '99 , '00 and '01 (when it was trendy to call him O'Queaf). I don't think I ever got too down on him. Maybe in '06 because that was the first time there wasn't a reason why we weren't explosive on offense. I was actually harder on Norm that year (remember Gonzalez being covered by LBs in the tOSU game??) . That was around the time Norm said the spread should be illegal. That sounds more like something KF would say (rather than adjust).

I don't like the scheme but any scheme has a chance to be successful if you have the right players in place. I like the wr screen, just not to Martin Manley. He coulda fell forward for a first down, but instead he dances and lost yardage. Against uni we don't go long all day.... Until late then we send Vandeberg deep-twice. The read option is a joke.....has Rudock kept the ball once on that play?

I agree with all of that.

The read option....ok, I get it. You don't need the QB to run it a lot. But he has to run it occasionally. Now that JR looks like his knee is better, run him a couple times. It will keep the end honest and make the play more productive.

No one seriously think Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz could step in as OC, right?
Define "step in". Are Greg Davis level results the bar? I have some confidence Brian could produce those.

The day we get the types of recruits and athletes taht Oregon gets is the day I'll consider it a viable option. Until then, there's nothing wrong with power football with play action. Its worked before and it would work perfectly with this team.

No.

I realize I risk more pics of coaches in Bike shorts here (which I find hilarious, btw), but BF would shit his fucking pants if he was told he needed to step in as OC next week. The results would be waaaaay worse than GD.

No. It literally can't get any worse. They couldn't score more than 17 against Ball State and Iowa State.

KOK ran the read option once. Stanzi picked up a first down at Penn State. (although that might have been more Stanzi just loving America and seeing an opening)

Correct. Kansas in subzero weather. Western Illinois. Greg Davis, twice. It literally does not get worse.

I guess the point is that Greg Davis regularly shits his pants in disgusting and shocking fashion.

Even though the majority of the playbook is probably 3 yeard out routes and receiver option routes, you could toss all of those and be left with something to work with. Runs and play action and it would perform 100% better than what the current dumbfuck is doing.

We could drag a random guy out of a Vietnamese rice paddy, have him yell random Vietnamese phrases into Bobby Kennedy's headset and we would get similar results.

Leave Davis there and disconnect his headset. Have the QB (yes even Rudock) call his own plays. Davis probably wouldn't even notice.

I'd bet we improve noticeably the first game.

I would agree with this. KOK was conservative at Iowa because that's what KF wants. I'm not saying that's good or bad, it's just the way it is. No matter who we bring in at OC they will call the game conservatively.
I would be OK going in that direction of conservative play then, because this version sucks dick

Seriously, if the coaches were utilizing the talent available to them we would be 3-0 and the Hawkeye outlook would be much different.

We have got a confident, talented, speedy wide receiver core just begging to get thrown the ball but Rudock or Davis or Ferentz or a combination of them refuses to. This team is capable to put up some some nice numbers.

The scheme actually being run is in fact terrible and mismatched. It would be less so with the zone running game replaced by the zone read, which I'd capitulate to at this point, but even then it would be bad, bland and unimaginative.

I hate the personnel decisions too.

I agree the scheme sucks but with the right personnel it would suck less.

This isn't a dumbfuck mismatched pussy scheme issue. This is a dumbfuck pussy using the wrong personnel issue.
I vote the "both" answer. Then only thing is Canzeri's been wounded, Willies had the flu and Powell may have had a bad wheel. I don't even want CJ in if he has to play with the "starters". It was great that he got his own guys in the Ball State game. I'd even like to see Andrew Stone in the slot.

CJ didn't do the 3-yarders when he played last year and he threw for nearly 400 in the spring scrimmage, with about 40-45 yards in dropped balls.

I don't think he plays tomorrow, period.

Kirk is terrified to put him in at this point, and not that he'll turn it over or be less productive. He saw a flash vs Ball State, and it brought him worry not excitement.

As far as Bullock goes I think he is a player I would want to have on my team. He blocks well can catch the ball and holds onto the potato. But he isn't a feature player like KF or GD or JR is trying to make him out to be. So I don't fault him. Right now Weisman is the proven durable down hill hold onto the ball back and I would run him (off tackle) until he breaks.

edit: With a nice dose of Canzeri.

JFC I don't want to think about Rudock and Weisman/Bullock running a zone read.

I think the thing that might be nice for OC Brian would be a wise old owl of a QB coach that could be his version of Jim Reid.

Watching the 2011 Pitt game on BTN now and remembering what JVB became in '12 just reinforces why I hate GDGD.

The 12 shitshow on that side of the ball will always be unforgivable. This season could supplant it in that regard.
