Spencer Petras so far this year....

23-51 (45%) and 201 yards
0 TD's
2 INT's
2 Fumbles
6.5 QBR

He's the absolute worst QB in the entire country by every single statistical measure. This madness cannot continue.
They just need to clean some things up, and guys need to help him out.

I have actually reached apathy. I woke up this morning, not a care in the world about the rest of the season. It’s done. It’s over. No way they change anything about the staff until after the season. We are witnessing the end of Iowas being competitive under KF. We will lose more players to the portal. Recruiting to this clusterfuck is an effort in futility now that we have become a punchline.

I heard coach Patterson last night saying that good athletes will come because they see an opportunity to play and have a positive impact. Really? Really Don? I don’t see that. You know why Don? Because we will be competing for those kids against other teams who simply have to point to Kirks stubborn and ignorant steadfastness to always stick with “his” players. Point to the steady decline in our offensive performance. To his continual promotion of his Son, despite all the facts showing that Sonny-boy is in wayyyy over his head. To his complete inability to adapt to the situation in the field in real time. To the point that despite elite-level defensive and special team performances you will barely eke by FCS teams and low-mid-level second rate conference wannabes AT HOME!!!!

unless there is a”shock to the system” type of colossal upheaval in the offensive program (and by that I mean a HELLUVA LOT bigger than playing Padilla or even Labas next week), the Ferentz era is sinking the ship. And that comes from a Ferentz apologist (Kirk only) for his entire reign. It’s up to Barta now to signal to current team members and future recruits that this is all unacceptable at Iowa.

National rankings for Spencer Petras....

Passing Yards - #127 out of 131
Completion % - #118 out of 122
Passing Efficiency - #120 out of 122
Passing Yards per Completion - #118 out of 122
Passing TD's - #122 out of 122
Yards per pass attempt - #121 out of 122

He's significantly worse than last year, and overall is the worst QB in the entire NCAA. The only guy you could argue is worse is the Hawaii QB, but considering he has played far tougher competition, he still isn't as bad.

The only bit of info that may assuage your bereavement is that Leistekow (I think) reported Petras has declared this to be his final season
In a logical world, this would be all the more reason to switch to Padilla at this point. Padilla is the future, not Petras.

If you had even a completely mediocre QB that was hovering around #75 in all these categories, then the last 2 weeks are complete laughable blowouts. Iowa would be rolling and looking at another 10 win season and winning the West.

The most atrocious, unforgiveable thing of all the stats is the time of possession. 38:15 to 21:45.

That is a criminal statistic and Phil Parker and the whole defense should consider walking out the door if this doesn't change. It is a miracle they only gave up 10 points.

We lost a game on OUR HOME FIELD to a very mediocre team in which our defense blocked two punts, intercepted two passes, recovered a fumble in the end zone, and allowed the opponent to score only 10 points. How in fuck's name did that even happen?

We? You don't live in Iowa. You didn't go to the University of Iowa. You're certainly not on the team. What's this "We" shit?

You're correct that I don't live in Iowa, and I'm not on the team. However, I spent seven years at The University of Iowa - 4 as an undergrad, and 3 in law school. Not to mention the fact that I was born and raised in Iowa, and spent my first 25 years living in Iowa. Also, I lived in Iowa City for a total of 10 years, including the 7 aforementioned years that I spent at the U. of Iowa.

Counterpoint, the same gene in Kirk that makes him unable to bench Spencer is responsible for giving an absurd number of snaps to Louie Stec today

It isn’t isolated to QB’s
again, Kirk’s poor personnel decision making isn’t limited to Qb’s.

Louie Stec….all 5’10” of him was brutally bad yesterday.

12-26 (46%) and 92 yards on the day with 1 INT and 1 fumble.

Even those stats are inflated as going into that last desperation drive where they are playing semi-prevent, he was 10-22 (45%) and 69 yards.

Let's not forget the game should have ended with Petras taking a sack you absolutely cannot take and fumbling the ball like a moron.

I don't know another program on the face of the earth, from NFL down to Pee-Wee flag football where that person would be allowed to take another snap the rest of their lives.
For the season, he is completing just 45% of his passes and has 0 TDs and 4 turnovers. This is 2022 and he is still the starting QB on P5 team is unreal. Un fucking real. This staff.

We have an elite level defense, but it won’t last with such disparities in TOP. They need rest in between possessions and the more they’re out there, the more likely they are to get hurt. The elite defense turns into a mediocre one because the offense is so atrocious. 8 wins? A bowl game? They will be hard pressed to win another game at all if this sort of offensive play continues.

It's like the play caller is acknowledging how shitty the QB is and how shielded he needs to be, but they don't dream of giving someone else a shot.
Someone said it earlier- they are completely making the offense easier in order for Spencer to start, instead of letting someone else try running the offense. We've all seen Spencer and Padilla run the offense. We all know Padilla was at least a bit more productive or at least not any worse running the offense. With Petras being worse this season you at least have to try and spark something.

You would think maybe at halftime of a game where the defense is playing awesome and the offense is a fucking horror show would have been a good time to try and find a spark, wouldn’t you? I guess that’s what makes folks like us different from the Ferentz’s. They saw that and apparently thought, more of this please. It’s almost like they, too, have lost all hope of having a functional offense.

I can’t quite let go of questioning how this offense can be “complicated”. I could accept that if even every few years it produced a steamroller of production and points. It doesn’t.

so, in the end, they have complicated a basic crap offense to the extent you cannot put any QB in unless they’ve been in the system for at least 2 full seasons and are members of the cult that buys into the theory that not turning it over is much, much more important than actually moving the ball forward and scoring points. Why would ANY decent prospect even consider coming to Iowa City, let alone a receiver

They aren’t complementary in any way shape or form. The offense makes everything acute.

No one is voicing the main reason that there's no chance Padilla starts next week. It's clearly our best shot at a W for the next month. If you start Padilla and you get the expected win, there's no way you can pull him for several weeks at least. Clearly they all want Petras, and there's no way they're going to risk giving him up by allowing Padilla a W next Saturday.
