The middle part of that game was so annoying, but the part where the offensive line mauled them was awesome.

Please please let either Petras improve and figure it out or play another QB.

Everything else is there, including the best special teams that Iowa has ever had. Iowa might have the best kicker, punter, punt returner and kickoff returner in the country.

Watch Linderbaum on Goodson’s long run to end the 3rd. Wow. Great having a center with a mean streak.

That true freshman Yahwa Black is a big sumbitch.

I wonder if they have thought of switching YaYa to OL and making him into a dominant tackle. With his size, if he is competent at all he could have a 10+ year NFL career.

They list him at 6'5''. No fucking way. He is at least 6'7'' or taller.

Bell and Polasek have been fighting over who gets him since he committed

Despite running 20 few plays and having 13 fewer minutes of possession time, Iowa outgained Minnesota, 346 yards to 312. The Hawkeyes’ defense through four games is allowing 4.22 yards per play, best among Power Five programs entering Saturday. That’s an astounding pace, considering the 2019 defense (which finished five nationally in points allowed) yielded 4.80 per play. The only defense in recent memory to approach the current pace was in 2009 (4.26 per play) …

Iowa is averaging 5.43 yards per carry, another impressive figure since it hasn’t even reached the 4.0 mark in any of the past three seasons. The Hawkeyes’ 235 rushing yards Friday were their most in a Big Ten game since gaining 266 against Nebrantska in 2018 …

We beat Minnesota by 28 and Doug is already talking about multiple transfers at the QB position. Enjoy the fucking victory for a night.
Seriously, what the fuck. I open it up this morning expecting a bunch of good time happy stuff and instead it's 3 pages about Petras sucking, lamenting past QB decisions from 12 years ago, the coaches don't know who should be playing and have proven it repeatedly, etc. What a miserable, whiny 100+ posts immediately after a glorious win.

Well- to be fair, all of those things did/do suck. Great win though.

Lol, fuck off. It's a discussion board and I was discussing hypothetical shit way down the road.

We all jerked each other off in chat and had a good time and I made an overall positive measured post.

As fucking annoying as I can be, lol at every game you waltz in and do this shtick.

Plenty of material for him to work with. Maybe stop being a retard.

Now that we are halfway through the regular season, I think we can at least have a little idea about this team....

- They're good. The run game is the best it has been since 2015. The Defense is getting saltier every game.
- Petras is not good. I certainly don't think he is the answer for the next 3 years
- Tory Taylor is absolutely fucking ridiculous
- Team is improving every game. They are 2 plays away from being 4-0 and in control of the Big Ten West
- If this team had a regular off-season, spring ball, camp and 3 or 4 games to work the cobwebs out, they would have been really good potentially

The rest of this short season hinges 1000% on Petras becoming not shitty. 50% completion rate, staring down receivers, poopy pants in the pocket and horrendous INT's is not going to cut it even against a down Penn State, Nebrantska and especially not Wisconsin.

I wouldn't be shocked if they ran the table. I also wouldn't be shocked if they are 4-4.
Man, I really sounded whiny and shitty after the win!

Now do the other 93 posts.
Man, I sound so negative and whiny....

We also shouldn't be all that surprised Iowa beat up on this team. They can't stop the run and their offense is built on taking big shots down the field. They thrived on it last year. Even starting this year they were hitting big shots against a Michigan team that refuses to play zone.

Phil's defense is just built to do exactly what it did to them tonight.
Well, except for 2012 it sort of remains true for all of Kirk's teams since 2008. Iowa has raised the floor in the last 7 years, but they are shockingly consistent.
Well, that is because they busted a huge run and then had a hilarious walk in TD.
Levar Woods liked this....

He ran onto the field and got in the face of the official.

The only thing I was negative about is Petras. He was 9-18, had a terrible INT and missed guys wildly all night.

Oh noes!!!!

It's all there for a ninth game against a shit school and a mediocre bowl game. Another what-if season in the making.

But, beat Nebrantska and Wisconsin, and I'll feel good about it.

Some of the commentary prompted me to dive into the numbers on where Petras stands relative to other Iowa QBs since 2000 and it obviously isn't good.

There have been 23 QBs who have thrown 100 passes or more in a season since 2000 and Petras ranks last in Passing Efficiency Rating and yards per attempt. In fact, his yards per attempt is lower than both Sargent's (6.3 yards/rush) and Goodson's (6.0 yards/rush) yards per rush attempt this season. The 6 yards/rush threshold is elite for Iowa since 2000. For players with a minimum of 33 carries, only 7 have averaged more than 6 yards/rush and 2 of them are Sargent and Goodson this year. Obviously this is a byproduct of the offensive line, the defense and the backs themselves but it is a rarity nonetheless.

Currently Petras is statistically worse than 2000 McCann, 2000 Mullen, 2007 Christensen, 2012 Vandenberg and 2014 Rudock--all QB seasons that are less than impressive. It is not unreasonable to suggest that Petras has, not by a small margin, the best supporting cast of any of those QBs. There is not a weak position on the offense outside of Petras. Michigan State, Purdue and Minnesota are not good defensive teams this year. As someone mentioned above, there has not been one play among his 134 attempts that made you think he has the 'it' factor for QBs.

*For reference, there have been 270 Big Ten QBs that have thrown at least 134 passes in a season. Currently Petras ranks 251/270 on pass efficiency rating and 248/270 on yards/attempt.

There was a tweet during the game (I apologize for no attribution) that said, "Spencer Petras passes are drive killers."

CJF was on his way to be a top 10 TE in the NFL before his injury. GD had him running stick routes and 5 yard outs.
no kidding. the dudes who used to complain about him here really showed their lack of knowledge.

Campbell looked very good in his first extended action. a couple bad plays but he has great range and instincts. Benson is ok, but a liability in pass defense.

someone keeps saying they should move Campbell to DE..I dont think thats a great idea. Hes a rangy athlete but doesnt appear incredibly explosive like a premier DE.

I admire how MN was still committed to run the ball late in the 4th down 4 scores
Fleck knows the season is garbage, so he was just trying to pile up rushing yards for his stud to help future recruiting. Or not.

Or using it as practice in effort to get better.
