The defense left themselves on the field all night. Phil didn’t help them at all. His 3rd down blitzes leaving the middle open was idiotic. He also went back to subbing like crazy on the back end after hardly doing it at all the last 2 weeks.I've said this to my wife approximately 1000 times. You can't leave your defense on the field the whole game and expect to win.
Hard to do when he's on the sideline.Kept hoping Johnson was going to swoop in and save the day.
Never happened
It was called in chat that it would come back to bite us in the ass...and it did.Good thing we called a time out before a punt.
It wouldn’t have mattered.I really wish Anderson would have pitched the ball to Gill at the end of the half.
Probably didn’t. We wouldn’t have stopped them with one extra timeout anyway. It was called in chat that it would come back to bite us in the ass...and it did.
Or thirty.Probably didn’t. We wouldn’t have stopped them with one extra timeout anyway.
Taking a timeout before the two minute warning fucked them. You can pass with no downside then. 26 years and he can’t figure out clock management. It was called in chat that it would come back to bite us in the ass...and it did.
Anderson knew if he pitched the ball he probably has his playing time severely reduced rest of season. Too risky for KFI really wish Anderson would have pitched the ball to Gill at the end of the half.
It. Wasn’t. Going. To. Matter.Taking a timeout before the two minute warning fucked them. You can pass with no downside then. 26 years and he can’t figure out clock management.
Correct . But it’s still annoying to not be able to get that right.It. Wasn’t. Going. To. Matter.
My assumption is that Kirk was expecting a targeting review. Because he’s a retard.Good thing we called a time out before a punt.
Completely agree. But they could have just handed us the ball at that point and it would have still been hopeless.Correct . But it’s still annoying to not be able to get that right.
Throw in your boy Nwankpa too.Schulte and Castro have disappointed all year.
Bad clock management is still bad clock management.It. Wasn’t. Going. To. Matter.
Oh I agree but that ship sailed with Warren Holloway.Bad clock management is still bad clock management.
The tackling was shit today and it was shit against MSU. In between it’s been generally solid but still not up to the usual Iowa standard. Phil is a fucking legend but he’s not God and with even an average defense our ceiling falls real fast. The offense sucked today, but after Sullivan took a couple shots, you can kind of excuse it, I guess.
The defense was awful all game. Credit them with the turnovers, but they couldn't tackle for shit.
I'm going to regret getting involved, but I highly doubt 20+ year DC and asst coach of the year forgot how to coach suddenly. Player talent and execution is the issue. The defense left themselves on the field all night. Phil didn’t help them at all. His 3rd down blitzes leaving the middle open was idiotic. He also went back to subbing like crazy on the back end after hardly doing it at all the last 2 weeks.
If we’re being honest with ourselves, he’s kinda sucked this year.
As if it isn’t his fault we haven’t had a remotely good QB take a snap since the 2019 Holiday Bowl. It’s a joke and the pot shots he’ll assuredly throw are as well.Kirk going to snort and blame this entirely on the QB situation I’m guessing. Check that - he’ll throw a few shots at the run D too, but still mostly the QB.
Mo Brown has been gone for 21 years.Gill is literally the first wr since mo brown who seems like a big ten wr.
Sorry terry
So did ISM and McNutt and multiple other guys.Mo Brown has been gone for 21 years.
DJK was a douche, but he existed.
Eh sounds like a big fucking excuse to be honest. 3 extra hours on a plane isn’t THAT big of a deal. Everyone will get used to it and it won’t even be talked about. This isn't related to tonight, but the Big Ten is going to be at a huge competitive disadvantage going forward and they need to get the CFP up to 20 or 24 teams.
No matter how nice travel is on private planes and staying in 4 or 5 star hotels, the 2+ time zone thing is real and it's going to continue to be a thorn in the side of the league every single year. Coast to Cost sounds fun and might get you tons of TV money, but you are going to have teams that lose games they really shouldn't. Look at the records already this year.
The SEC goes no further west than Austin, TX. No further north than Columbia, MO. No further east than Clemson, SC. No further south than Gainsville, FL. The longest flight is barely 2 hours.
You have Big Ten teams traveling from fucking Seattle / Eugene / LA to NYC. 5+ hour flights. Making teams play a Saturday night game and then have to travel 4-5 hours to play a short week Friday night game is fucking stupid. I could see it if you had a pussy ass league like the Big XII where the players might not even be sore but having physical Big Ten teams do it is just dumb.
Stupid Goat…Historically, this game looks a lot like the Michigan State game. I would very much like it if it looked like the Wisconsin game instead.
Very insightful, I know.
It feels like a cruel joke that Iowa’s best offensive output in years happens to coincide with its worst defensive one as well. Our offense is still much better than last year…
Breaking news: Iowa plays poorly in all West coast games other than those where they successfully run 8 yard QB sneaks.Stupid Goat…
It's not an excuse and it is a big deal. The evidence already proven by players that are bigger, faster, stronger and in far better shape and way more used to the travel than college teams. NFL has a mountain of documented evidence of how long travel effects performance.Eh sounds like a big fucking excuse to be honest. 3 extra hours on a plane isn’t THAT big of a deal. Everyone will get used to it and it won’t even be talked about.
