I’ve always loved Clark’s home. It’s unrealistically large but done so with cinematic good taste and warmth. The steps down into the living room give it a bigness and separateness I like. The spinnet suggests bourgeois modesty but they ain’t kidding anyone. I mean, that spacious foyer and curved staircase would wet Norma Desmond’s undies.

That scene is also a rarity in that every line is funny. The writing is really pitch-perfect. Quaid is so fucking loony and just nails Eddie’s obliviousness. Clark is the perfect dry foil. Bottoms up, folks, and Merry Christmas.
