I don't wear extra tight coaching shorts, but doesn't the line seem much better this year?

Not to be a potential Negative Nancy, but how much of our offensive progress under Lester is just simply Kaleb being awesome; or is our scheme being better that is making Kaleb awesome? Both?
Lester is a massive, if not the sole reason for the perceived improvement. Simply playing Johnson is part of it. A non-injured Johnson sat behind now transferring Leshon Williams all last year. He's already surpassed his total carries last season.

In my unprofessional opinion it’s some of each. The line is opening up big lanes more often and Johnson’s vision seems to have improved quite a bit. Johnson always ran pretty hard, the issue was that when he was actually playing there was either nowhere to go or he missed the hole and ran up an OL’s ass.

Imo it's a combination of having a better quarterback (yeah, I know. But he's better than bacon*), a better overall scheme, development, and healthy players. Cade is enough of a threat to loosen the defense up, though Iowa still sees a stacked box. Kaleb is great, of course. He was injured quite a bit last season, as was several of the linemen. Development is the key which seems to be one thing people tend to discount. Often folks make an assessment of a players (or a groups) ability and that never changes.

*usually nothing is better than bacon

We've run about 10x more counters than last year (whenever we did it was truly always the same one). That + the pre-snap motion helps a ton. Imagine if (when) we get Lester's ideal QB and hopefully some WR talent. I'm nearly delusionally bullish.

Wasn't he banged up most of if not all of last year?

I think it’s easy to fall into the trap that the offense is the same because it’s ran out of a lot of the same personnel groups as in the past.

The variety in blocking schemes, how they use presnap motion (the motion player actually does something in the play) and passing concepts are different.

Under BF, even when we had better lineman and wr, it just seemed like there were more dead plays due to guys just fucking up. I don’t know if that is pure scheme or better communication from top down, but I think it is a real thing.

The counters are huge. Especially for a smallish but athletic offensive line. Allows them to get angles rather than just having to road grade the defender every play.

The route that Howard ran on his touchdown was in the middle of the field, in stride and at an angle so he was running down the field as well as across. Feels like years since we've completed a pass like that.

Sitting in the North endzone you could tell they were going to take a shot because 0 and 7 were in at WR on the base 2 TE set instead of 15 and whoever else is usually in. UW apparently did not recognize this personnel change.

No, he was black with dreads playing for Kirk’s son, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz.
Well that's weird. Wasn't he also black with dreads his freshman year playing under Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz when he gained 900 yards and got a majority of the carries?

Logan Jones played pretty damn good Saturday. I think Elsbury at guard has helped a ton too. No Stephens and DeJong has got to be the preferred path forward.
I think Stephens is soft.

Also I don't think that block into the UW sideline should've been a flag. I fucking loved it.
Lol I said the same thing when it happened. They called Dunkers number at first which made sense. Dunker's best trait is he's a redass (literally and figuratively). I've always believed the offensive line needs at least one guy who plays to the echo of the whistle because that kind of attitude rubs off on the rest. So a 15 yarder isn't terrible, especially one like that. To see Jones do it was refreshing. It would be different if Jones had punched a dude or some other non football play. That's not good.

Being the defender who gets driven 10 yards out of bounds into the bench would suck. Demoralizing. Conversely it gets the entire offensive line jacked up.

I'm going to say again that people underestimate Jones. He's really developed. He's going to be an nfl player. He's set team records in the squat, hang clean, 10m and 20m, so he's an athletic freak. He's great at pulling and getting to the second level. Now that he's figured out how to actually snap he's become very good.

that was before he got NIL deals and pre-season publicity. We can’t be having that.

The iowa game was great and all, but the biggest win of the day was me moving to 7-0 after monster's forfeit on Saturday.

Something as Football 101 as formation diversity and making it hard to guess what we’re doing has been a game changer for the running game as well.

NBC showed a stat during the Minnesota game that Iowa ranked like #130 in use of motion last year and was top 50 or 25 this year. It is such a basic piece of an offense and Brian acted like it was a trick play.

My nonexpert opinion is generally speaking former offensive linemen make terrible OCs.

I'd like to know your diet and supplement plan.
Coffee with cream and honey
White tea
Sparkling water
Banana
Sushi for lunch
8000 IU D3
Heart & Soil Warrior capsules

And I just masturbated to it again. Goddamn that run game is really turning me on.

Brian couldn't have that motion. Too much backyard football!

That's what made all of the Debbie Downers with the stupid "It's all Kirk! Kirk will never change!" shit so wrong.

Yeah, Kirk is Kirk. It's not like Lester has implemented Mike Leach's offense or some shit. But Brian was just undeniably SO bad at his job.

True. And that's where the nepotism comes into play. If Lester wants to run something that Kirk doesn't, he's going to push back harder. Hard to push too hard against daddy.

My fave part of this Lacheys block on the end around. Seals the edge with a nudge and immediately drops down to the next level. That shit never would have happened under Brian he just would have engaged the first block until someone got tackled or hurt
