It's almost as if he lost his starting job and was run out of Michigan for a reason. He's not terrible overall, but he isn't good either especially when he is only playing at about 60%.

He's very very very very mediocre.
Lololol. Absolutely true.

And at the same time, he’s also made at least 7-8 plays this year in just three games that would have 1000% been a sack or turnover for Petras.

A very very mediocre QB, on one leg, is still significantly better than Petras

Not sure what i was expecting. I’m surprised it’s not worse. He hadn’t played a snap in the better part of a year and missed a huge chunk of fall camp with an injury while learning a new (and shittier) offense. And is still hurt.

He was also good enough to earn the job at Michigan, but not good enough to keep it. He’s got an axe to grind with the world right now, and Kirk is absolutely right that he’s “pressing”.

I think it’s ok to understand he’s a “bridge” QB for a program that otherwise had no answers at the position. Still a measurable upgrade even after a shitty game.

Hopefully Fat Marco or Resar end up being good.

Hot Take of the night: three games of Cade being mediocre AF, but still being “better” simply because he doesn’t spaz, brain cramp and can avoid negative plays….does absolutely nothing but solidify my opinion that Iowa would have won more games the previous two seasons with any other of the QB’s Iowa had on the roster starting

fuck it - i'll say it. overall, i think brian called a couple decent games.
genius ? = no
OK = yeah
No. He may be less terrible at times and even have a good call every once in awhile, but even he himself has no idea what leads to a good play call vs a bad one. He basically has no idea what the fuck he is doing and will luck into some success every once in awhile.

I am optimistic that Cade will improve and have some big moments.
I'm hoping/wondering if he steps up when the lights are the brightest next week. On the road at PSU and Top 10 MSU in 2021 he had some big games in wins.

I thought Treye Jackson had a career ending knee injury?
Not to my knowledge- at Iowa, anyway. When he came in in '81, they found a congenital neck problem requiring surgery. When he got back on the field the next year, they discovered he couldn't catch, at least at wide receiver. He went to running back and got 11 carries as a 3rd teamer behind Phillips and Gill in '83. Then he transferred to Colorado State, but apparently never played.

Cade looks a bit anxious and jumpy to me, like he's struggling with re-acclimating to the speed of the game. Understandable, given no spring ball and the loss of two weeks of training camp. Throwing in California isn't same. It wouldn't seem to be an overnight fix.

Cade is trying to do more than his talent/injury status allow. He was way overhyped preseason. He’s trying to liven up to those expectations but he’s really not that guy. He’s a game manager, a pretty good one at that, but he’s trying to be the star of the show.

He looked way calmer last week against Iowa State. A lot of that was he had time to let Lachey get open and most of his throws were right where they needed to be the first 3 quarters. He’s been struggling since that missed throw to Anderson.

But let’s call it like it is. His right leg still isn’t healthy. Whether it’s the quad or knee doesn’t matter. When he’s sure of himself his throws are usually spot on (throw to All in the 4th quarter), when he double clutches, he loses some zip and is usually late. He seemed to really struggle after that scramble in the 1st quarter.

Either way, he’s still a major upgrade over Petras.

Silver lining is All, Cade and Lachey all return next year.

Uhhhh....no. Cade will be back potentially, but I'm guessing All and Lachey are both way way gone to the NFL draft.

I'm guessing one with a severe back injury and the other with a dislocated or broken ankle aren't dying to come back. All will be the featured TE the rest of the year as well, so increases the chances he is gone.

Lol, nope.
Lachey would be nearly 24 years old if he came back and then went to the 2025 NFL draft. All would be going on 25 years old by the 2025 NFL Draft.

Yeah, both would be 24 and 25 year old NFL rookies by the start of the 2025 NFL Season. That isn't happening.

If Lachey is out for the year I think he probably has to consider coming back. He doesn’t have much film and he’d be coming off of a pretty significant injury. Sad, because if he could’ve just stayed healthy this year he’s probably a second rounder

Assuming he’s healthy enough to workout for teams, I think he has shown more than enough to get drafted fairly high.
Correct. If he tests out remotely well, he has enough film to get drafted.

Why is Iowa State Actual 25?
10 points ahead of 25/avg so far. The late TD will help as the year goes on
Correct. I didn't save after last week. And yes, they're 10 points ahead of 25 average, but that's the whole point of what I was doing here. They need to be way ahead of the 25 average after playing Utah State and Western Michigan because points get a lot harder starting now.

Who is this Petras guy people keep on mentioning? I don't (want to) recall.

Do some of petras' dumbest moments over his extended career need to be embedded in this thread?

Iowa had the worst qb in all of football for the last 3 years. Cade is whatever, but light-years ahead of where we've become accustomed to.
Not to put in this thread, but I would personally fund a project that put every one of his magnificently brain dead plays in a single video. We deserve to have that remembered for all time

I'm actually sort of surprised the Brian Drive to 25 deal didn't create a spinoff on how many games it would take Cade to eclipse Spencer's various passing marks

He's just one passing TD short through 3 games of Spencer's 12 game total in 22
