This guy is very young but it’s hard to ignore his success. He should be a candidate for the OC job. Won’t, but should be.

Anyone - out of the 99% of the world's total human population, including newborns and mentally declining 90+ year olds - who thinks that being (nearly) dead last in most offensive stats is likely not a good way to build and maintain a healthy upwardly-mobile P5 program.

Kirk needs to retire. Iowa fan does this sentimental thing where they want it to work with Kirk, because they love him. He’s done incredible things for Iowa, been a part of countless great memories and is mostly a good dude. But Iowa football is bigger than Kirk, and I don’t think he has it in him to turn the offense around.

Unless he makes drastic changes, which given his posture is unlikely, every season from now on has a low ceiling. That’s a pretty miserable place to be.

He’s old and retiring soon anyway no matter what. He can and will leave the program in worse shape if he continues.

Anyone that’s a hot name and popular enough that the NCAA/Big Ten would like to succeed

I’m relatively confident Bridawg will be gone after the season, by force of pure shame if nothing else. Whether Kirk will be allowed to promote Gift from God Buddy Boy is the million dollar question. And that will be Beth’s true test.

Do any of you think Iowa will make a big name hire? They will try to find someone with ties to Iowa. It's going to be an underwhelming choice no doubt in my mind.

We thought this same shit last year. And the years prior about Spencer. There is zero accountability on that side of the ball so until it happens I’m confident Brian will be back.

Does Phil want to be head coach? I figured he'd retire with ferentz when the time comes. Been here since the beginning.

We have an offense from the 30s and it's embarrassing. It's changed slightly over the years and basically only gotten worse. Brian is worse than Greg Davis, who was worse than Ken o keefe.

We are still gonna win 9-10 games so it's weird to talk about firing ferentz. The games are incredibly boring is my main criticism but as long as we are a top 15-25 program ferentz can stay as long as he wants IMO.

The whole “we’re still going to win 9 or 10 games” mantra sure feels presumptuous. With this offense we could easily lose to everyone left on our schedule.

That's not true.

Iowa's offense is not old fashioned, or conservative, or stuck in the past, or whatever. It's bad. It fucking sucks.
The recruiting efforts for offensive talent are bearing fruit. Mostly lemons.

While I don’t think that side of the ball is littered with studs, we’ve seen time and time again several of them will go on to have surprising NFL careers. They’re just stuck in a system that neuters any and all talent.
Yes they have produced some good linemen but do you see much potential in the current group? It's very average players playing in a bad offensive philosophy. Bad combination.

Nope. Iowa has recruited at a similar level on offense and defense. It’s impossible for us to distinguish recruiting misses from bad coaching and development.

The offense sucks because the coaching sucks.
the WR recruiting, or at least retention, has been pretty awful

Maybe but there’s three more games this year that Iowa could lose.

kirk always jokes about 'not knowing anything about quarterbacks'... but i am starting to think he may legitimately NOT know anything about quarterbacks..

It is incredible they do not even have 1900 yards of offense on the year.
These is a significant difference in yards from the 2nd worse team as well. 230 yards per game is much worse from last year.

From what I’ve heard, Phil is attached to Kirk. We shouldn’t assume he stays in IC when Kirk leaves
