You could really see the light come on for Patrick. There’s a lot to be gained there if he can get his outside shooting up to 35%. Honestly I think his pull-up jumper looks pretty good, it’s when he shoots from a standstill that he shoots like a girl. His ballhandling is exceptional for someone with his length, And he does not quite have Connors vision but it is still very good. We have been missing someone with his bounce.

He will also be a 22-year-old freshman during next year’s tournament LOL

Patrick has a lot of potential and we started to really see that as you mentioned. He can attack the rim better than any player we have had since Aaron White.

But won't he be a 22 year old sophomore during next year's tournament?

No doubt the offense will be good. I think Patrick takes a big step forward next year. He played pretty well in the last few games. I also think Nunge is really good as well.

Ulis, CJ, Patrick, Keegan, Nunge
That's definitely a unit that will be out-muscled by certain teams.

I mean. This year doesn’t count.

He will still be a freshman since this year doesn’t count toward eligibility.

My guess would be he'll probably still show up as a sophomore on the roster and they'll take it into account during their senior years for any player who chooses to stay at that point.

Garza, bohannon and likely Wieskamp all gone. Major health concerns for Connor, Fredrick and Nunge. Unprecedented transfer rules.

I think it is obvious to say that next years team will look nothing like this years team did. Shooting and scoring will take a hit, but athleticism and defense should improve.

Here is where things would stand not including any transfers...

Toussaint / Ulis
Fredrick / Perkins
Patrick / Kris Murray / Sandfort
Keegan Murray / Connor
Nunge / Ogundele

Fran is going to have to hit the ground running and pull in at least a couple of impact transfers, especially in the post and a shooter/scorer. I also think now would be the perfect time (should have come a year ago) for Fran to shake up his coaching staff. In person recruiting is going to be huge and they need someone who is competent at teaching defense.
I think Connor is going to start over Joe T

Patrick's defense leaves a lot to be desired.

I just worry about who is going to be able to consistently hit 3's if Wieskamp is gone. CJ if he decides to shoot instead of pump fake, but then who?

It's not Keegan's strength, Nunge likes to chuck them up but I'd rather he didn't so often, Toussaint can't, Connor and Pat look like they're having seizures when they shoot from behind the arc.

Perkins maybe? The other Murray?

I would hope both Murray’s are competent from three next year otherwise it’s going to be a clumsy offense.

The lack of pure shooters will be offset by more guys who can drive to the hoop, and finish. I would imagine more pressing next year too.

Pat, Jack, CJ and Keegan should be good enough from the outside to keep defenses honest.

I dunno. I'm not going to look up any stats, but if you take CJ out of the equation all of the other guys seem like they were below average for 3pt% this year. And CJ has problems staying healthy.

I do think the team is going to be much better at driving and cutting than this year's team, but unless you think they're going to get to the rim every time they're going to need to kick it out to someone who can actually shoot.

If, and it's a huge if, Patrick learns how to guard even a little, he'll be a major contributor and have a very good year. I'm in the minority, I'm sure but I like his game.

3 point percentage this year from our guards that are returning next year:

Joe T 27%
CJ 47%
Connor 27%
Perkins 33%
Ulis 0% (attempted only 3 to be fair)

Non guards
Keegan 29%
Patrick 30%
Nunge 29%

Keegan is a better shooter than he showed this season. I know the competition level was not great, but he shot 38% from three and 86% from the FT line on high volume in prep school and has a nice looking stroke. I think he’ll make a pretty big leap over the offseason.

eh, he’s fine. I love the length of him and Murray out there together. IYKWIM
For a 6’9 guy with long arms who can get off the floor he sure seems content to watch a lot of dunks.

this is @The Incredible Hawk territory, but a history of stress fractures and plantar fasciitis doesn't seem to bode well for cj's long-term durability.

CJ has a history of injuries yet we are supposed to buy into the Kentucky rumors. Kentucky can get anyone they want to transfer there, so they take a guy who can't stay on the floor? Nope

Calipari apparently has a new strategy of not going after 5-star recruits but instead going after injured players from other teams.
a little injection here, a little tape there...they'll transform a plow horse into a thoroughbred in no time

it's cal's new philosophy

honest

Both can heal fine with time, but the better plan would be to find what is causing it and correct that either with therapy, orthotics, surgery, etc. The problem is that during the season, it really isn’t an option, so you just manage the best you can. Even with a pool or Alter-G, it’s nearly impossible to replicate real training and impact is counter productive.

Honestly, it frees up another spot to add some athletes if Fran can manage. Who cares
