I mean, I thought he wasn't even on the NBA's radar, yet there he is as one of the invitees to the NBA Pre-Draft Combine and testing out at the top of Pod 1.

Weird.

Meh, that doesn't mean as much as it used to in the spaced out NBA. There are a ton of guys built like him now.
You're probably right, I was speaking more to college where he was zero threat getting to the rim.

Measurables are important for Joe. He needs the narrative to be that he has a lot of tools but wasn't able to display them at Iowa because of a Garza dominant offense.

Iowa fan has always been so retarded in regards to Joe. I’ve been tough on him too but the guys that don’t think he can play in the league are especially retarded.
Making the league and playing in the league are two different things.

With rosters essentially expanding from 12 to 17 players over the years, it's a lot easier to make the league than it used to be. Actually playing for a non-tanking team, that pool of players is much smaller.

The fact that we're debating if Joe can even make the league isn't a ringing endorsement that he'll be playing anytime soon.

I assume he hears he's a second rounder and there's not much he can do with another year in college to improve that.

I'd like to have him back at Iowa for another season, but I don't know how you can fault him for leaving.

Way way too many Iowa fans rooting against Wieskamp. Fucking losers.

Save the Petras comparisons if any dipshit thinks of making one.

Had to throw in the “actually playing for a non-tanking team” to get a shot in at TC too. Congrats, you’re a piece of shit.

80% of second round picks don't make it more than five years. And we don't even know if Joe is going to be a second round pick. So I'd take that bet.

What is it that makes you so bullish on Joe in the NBA? I assume it's three point shooting since there doesn't appear to be another above average skill (rebounding is solid but nobody cares).

I'm not sold on the 46% three percentage translating for a number of reasons: 1) shot 35% the year before, 2) shot 67% from the line, 3) the three percentage was inching down as the year progressed, and 4) he played with a dominant big getting double teams.

And do we really think Joe has the mentality to be some sort of three point sniper anyway? The kid was very passive for three years at Iowa and consistently disappeared while on the court.

FWIW: ESPN's latest mock draft (post lottery) has Garza going 53/60. Joe is not listed.

My buddy from the Clippers said they had a late first second round grade for Joe (yesterday). However, said depending on what happened at the combine, he could certainly jump up. He said the combine is most important for the 2nd rounders and you can really make a name for yourself if you were fringe to begin with. They do 2-3 significant draft board updates post combine, individual team workouts, and in person/phone/zoom/background check interviews.

Sorry edit -- LATE SECOND ROUND

I assume the majority of the fans saying he can’t make it in the NBA believe their tweets will impact his decision making process and hope he returns for his senior year.

Outside of a fluke injury, he’s gone.

Yeah, I was just looking for an opportunity to pull in Tyler Cook out of the blue. Either that or I've watched the NBA for long enough to know that 25% of the league has no interest in winning games each season.

Late first round with the possibility of moving up? That's way higher than has been said anywhere else. In that case, he should go.

I didn’t even realize there were Iowa fans out there still thinking Joe might return. It’s over. He’s gone.

Eek - read that without proofing. I just fixed it. LATE 2nd round grade. My fault.

This is the shit I am talking about. He was All-Freshman Big Ten. Then he was 3rd Team All-Big Ten as a Sophomore. Then he was 2nd Team All-Big Ten as a Junior.

The media and coaches thought he was one of the 5 best freshman, 15 best players and 10 best players in the best conference in the country in consecutive years.

Yet here we are with Wal-Mart JRHawks posting that he wasn't a three point sniper (career 40%+) and was "very passive for three years" and "consistently disappeared while on the court".

Dumbfuck.

182 scholarship players in the Big Ten every year, and Joe was one of the Top 15 as a Sophomore and Top 10 as a Junior, but IowaFan thinks he sucks.

Awesome. Can't make this shit up.

The all conference stuff is nice, but it's not particularly relevant for pro potential. Luka is basically two time national player of the year and may not even get drafted...and will likely get picked on defensively every second he spends on an NBA court.

I said Joe won't be a three point sniper in the NBA. I stand by him being passive and disappearing.

A few posts up you referenced Joe struggling with the mental part of the game. To what were you referring?

6. Ask Doug again what he was referring to when he mentioned that Joe struggles with the mental part of the game.

Lol @ 2nd team all Big Ten meaning diddly squat. Just look at the lack of nba draftees coming out of the big ten. The talent drain from the big ten is why they haven’t won a title in two decades.

the big ten has not won a title in 20 years because the style of play allows absurd levels of physical contact which leaves teams unprepared to guard in the tournament and encourages programs to have guys add unneeded weight.
True, I have called this the “Izzo effect”. He ruined the league. Add a dash of Bo Ryan & now the league has less nba talent than ever before.

I’ll give Fran big credit for actually trying to play basketball how it should be played, at least offensively. Far better than whatever that shit is in east Lansing or Madison.

That's fucking stupid. Players add weight and get stronger because it MAKES THEM BETTER PLAYERS. And way more durable. Shit look at Steph Curry. He's a finesse player and has gotten jacked relative to earlier in his career.

I don't know if there's any correlation or if it's like that in all conferences but Big Ten has had quite a few draft day (2nd round) or undrafted free agent steals in the last few years Xavier Tillman, Thomas Bryant, Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, Jae'Sean Tate, etc. Then players like Vince Edwards, Romeo Langford, and Carson Edwards have sucked.

I agree with this except your point about unnecessary weight. Also I think grind of the conference tournament has some effect as well.

The Big Ten has had 26 total players drafted the past five years.

The ACC has had 52 total players drafted the past five years. It’s worst year equaled the Big Tens best.

Of the major conferences the Big Ten is clearly talent deficient. This is at least part of the reason most of the league plays more deliberately.
