There's money to be made selling get rich quick schemes to millenials/Gen Z...NIL, cryptocurrency, gamestonk, etc.
But at least the evil NCAA won’t be the ones profiting off these athletes

My favorite part about this is he’s spent a couple years talking about NIL and now that it’s happening he throws out a shirt that took 32 seconds to design.

It’s also perfect because he can’t use the Tigerhawk on it so if you wear it it won’t make sense to 99.99% of people that see you.

Limited quantities available. I am afraid if I don't sign up for Patreon and have access July 1st, they will be sold out by open availability on July 2nd.

I saw this now and fucking LOL that this dipshit had all that time and put in all that effort to battle for his NIL rights and his big plan is to sell awful t-shirts and charge for "exclusives" on a podcast?

Lol.

Is there or has there ever been a single Iowa athlete that you would have paid for something or purchased something from? I can't think of anyone ever, and I fucking love Iowa sports. In fact, it would be completely embarrassing to purchase anything from them or pay for something from them.

I also think at some point that most of the players will come to a realization they either don't make shit, or the little money they do make isn't worth the work to get it.

At that point, the bitching will go right back to the NCAA should pay them.

It’s going to be a recruiting deal mostly. Basically a signing bonus. And whatever, they deserve it. And then you’ll have the top guys getting some big deals and guys like Wieskamp, bohannon, and Epenesa will get local deals and make a little money off of it.

"They deserve it".

That is the problem, no they don't.

im really not thrilled he’s on the 2021-22 roster.

I can see student section types buying them if they are designed better than the one bohannon is selling. But that's about it.

So where's the potential money from NIL?

Camps in their hometown? Some sort of royalties from video games? Can boosters just hand them a pile of cash or do some phony sponsorship of their company?

I lol'd when some national NIL leach talked about NIL being a real equality opportunity for women athletes to be social media influencers. Because nothing says equality like college aged woman donning a thong for cash.

The NIL thing is good, it's just not the money maker they think it will be.

They will transition very quickly from 'we deserve to monetize our name and likeness' (which I absolutely agree with) to 'we deserve a portion of the money the program brings in.' Modern day slavery and what not.

Plus, I don't think they realize it will be actual work to get the money for almost all of them. There might be some initial money just given to them for nothing, but once recruiting is over and they get to campus and are redshirting, money won't come in without a lot of time and effort.

I wonder if a new company will pop up 'helping' athletes with this marketing for a big cut...you know, like an agent.

Dallas Craddieth as a recruit. 4* safety that media types hyped as a guy that could compete for a starting spot his first year.

4 years later no one knows who he is.

What’s going to make this awful is someone like Aaron Ulis making $2k while a starter on the wrestling team ranked 3rd nationally is making $500. The dip shits will say how unfair the system is.

This is already happening, and it’s called women’s pro sports.

It’s 100% going to be the NCAA‘s fault when the next year’s Cade Cunningham has a Nike deal and top women’s basketball players don’t make the same amount of money.

Thankfully I think Iowa is one program that might, at least initially, avoid that because we have a good looking female superstar and also a legend in an off-beat sport like wrestling. They actually might make some money and make it look "fair" or avoid the bitching.

bohannon had some Tweet a few months back about how Spencer Lee was going to make millions. Like Strat, I actually think NIL is the right thing to do and I’m happy for them, but a lot of these guys are clueless.

Spencer won’t make millions, but he has a national brand in a niche, but passionate sport. Caitlin Clark to a lesser extent. They’ll be on the high end of wrestling/women’s basketball earning potential and it will still be less than the backup qb on the Alabama football team.

I'm going to LOL when the University has to send cease and desist letters to athletes telling them to stop using unlicensed materials. That will be sure to bring out some bitching and moaning about UNFAIR!!

I mean, we already saw it when Garza broke Marbles record and it didn’t take 14 seconds for someone to bring up Gustafson.

In pro sports it‘s always the second contract when guys really make $. A lot of that is obviously due to the CBAs, but there is a definite lag. Even without CBAs and contracts, other than a super hyped freshman in basketball you have a shorter window just due to being a 4-year sport.

Like Garza, who is the best Iowa basketball player at least in decades, only had real earning power his last 1.5 years. In football Iowa has had guys like Jackson or Nixon go from unknown or backups to All-American and early draft entries in less than a season. There’s a really narrow window there.

Does this allow schools (coaches) to pay players to work their camps on the summer?
