Avert your eyes as here is what as happened with our top early targets: (Bold are particularly egregious due to position we should recruit at high level at and/or the school they went to instead)

Guys we had schedule to visit on 6/21 that committed elsewhere before making it

OL Deylin Hasert MN (Iowa State over Minnesota) (from Yahya Black's HS)
TE Tommy McIntosh MI (WIsconsin)
TE Eli Raridon IA (Notre Dame)
TE Chris Petrucci IL (Northwestern)
WR Eian Pugh IL (Illinois)
OL Nick Herzog KS (Northwestern)
OL Ashton Craig IN (Notre Dame)
DE Demetrious Allen IN (Rutgers - borderline bold for that alone)
LB Will McLaughlin IA (Iowa State)
WR Eric Ayomanor (We lead for motnhs - but he blew up offers from everyone now , not a huge failure on level as others)

6/21 Visitors who weren't already committed to us
RB Aidan Laughery IL (Illinois)
TE Andrew Killer WI (Iowa State)
TE Micah Riley Ducker NE (Auburn)
OL Landon Livingston IN (West Virginia???)
OL Carson Hinzman WI (Wisconsin, Notre Dame, tOSU is competition)
DL Hunter Deyo IA (Iowa State - not bold due to academics)
DE Chase Carter MN (Likely MSU)
DE Brian Allen CT (Waiting until fall)
DB Christion Stokes MI (West Virginia)

Kirk basically said leading up to those visits that he didn’t expect a lot of commits out of that group. I’m guessing he didn’t expect it to be this bad, but he’s probably not shocked.

It’s also clear from Tyler Barnes tweet a couple weeks ago that they are a little frustrated.

This year’s class is looking pretty blah, but it will be a small class (15-18 commits). If Iowa has a strong season this year, the recruiting will rebound in 2023 and it won’t really matter. If Iowa struggles this year, recruiting is probably going to get pretty worrisome.

I feel like Kirks the type of guy that could see the writing on the wall if they struggle and their recruiting isn’t going the way they would like. He would retire and get out of the way.

We barely recruited Hasert, especially after getting 2 tackles. We're only taking 1 WR so Pugh is meh. McLaughlin it seemed like we barely recruited him.

only because it seems like he’s going to catch a bunch 10-yard screens on 3rd and 9 at any other west sc
Kinda what I had in mind watching his highlights, then thought there would be no way Iowa utilized him in that manner so now we get to watch him do it at Illinois while going 6-6.

I’d rather him get 17 career carries at Iowa instead of him getting those 7 catches in some 23-19 Illinois win in 2025 though.

This class will continue to be a majority of guys who either grew up Iowa fans or Iowa is their only decent offer.

They are coming off of the best 3 year stretch of recruiting and a large, really solid class. They have a couple good linemen on both sides of the ball already, and a solid WR. This is going to be a small class. This class might suck, but it only matters if next years class sucks too.

Iowa has 4 guys committed who grew up Iowa fans, 2 guys who have Iowa as their only decent offer, and 2 who would be considered recruiting wins (Bostick and Crawford). Nothing I said was inaccurate.

It's perfectly fine to rip on iowa's shitty recruiting class, unless you're firmly in the camp of "have to focus on Indiana, can't look ahead to next week's game" fandom.

Ripping on it is one thing, but posts like "THIS HAS TO STOP!!" and other freaking out is stupid.

Guys, this may surprise you but Doug only likes criticism on Iowa sports when he’s the one criticizing. Shocking, I know.

I was worried about the recruiting until I realized our best returning defensive lineman played at a Division II school, a starting linebacker was stolen from South Dakota State, one corner was basically a white walk on, one starting safety is a white walk on, one starting safety was going to play college basketball until a day before signing day, the cash starter played at a school with a former player as head coach, the defensive tackle with the most buzz was a lightly recruited guy from Minnesota, the TE was an afterthought when they couldn’t get anyone else, the punt returner is a transfer from Buffalo, the starting slot receiver was someone people thought would suck, the starting X receiver was a high school quarterback, the fullback has a mullet and is everyone’s favorite player, the center was a defensive tackle recruit, one of the guards is a guy Kirk liked in camp, one of the tackles generating attention was an afterthought recruit from Kansas, one of the starting tackles is someone people were not excited about, the other wears goggles, the last guard was a short walkon from like Coggon Iowa which brings me to their 3 big recruits that are starting in Petras that everyone hates, Waggoner who everyone thinks is meh and Goodson who is awesome.

Iowa is getting a visit from a Florida RB this weekend. Cancelled plans to visit Florida State in order to do so. It seems like most (if not all) of these offers are no longer committable, but this would be a pretty nice backup plan to missing out on the white RB.

That might be the best offer sheet by an Iowa player ever
