I would have punched myself in the dick for even saying it before, but Mulvey needs more minutes. I watched him a bit today, especially on defense and he adds enough there to warrant more time. He communicates well, he recovers appropriately and clogs things up making it less of a layup line than we are used to seeing. Plus, every time a shot goes up, he finds someone to throw his ass into and actually boxes out.

The staff went wild on Traore when he had that defensive lapse against ISU. I noticed in one game when he was at the scorer’s table to check in Fran was flipping out on him to get his warm up pants off and get in there. Definitely seems like he is not in good standing. Which is unfortunate. We play our best and most exciting basketball when he and Thelwell are on the floor together.

The frustrating thing is there are so many different ways to guard a ball screen, all of which would be preferable over what they are choosing to do.

You simply can not switch that when it’s that big of a mismatch. Then on top of that, if they try to switch back the big just rolls to the basket and the two guard on the backside get caught with their thumb up their ass.

Utah played even worse on ball defense than Iowa. Just kept spreading them out and going iso.
