Recency bias makes sense sometimes, you don't recruit 35-year olds.

Honestly c+doesn't feel that off base. Especially after this shit season what would you expect people to say? I would say Fran is closer to b- or b, but that's the absolute highest you can go

It says the game was 58-50 Iowa, with 11:51 left. MSU scored 91 total points.

So MSU put up 41 points in less than 12 minutes. Just a mere 140-pt pace if maintained for 40 minutes.

Kakert was on the radio and said she came striding down to the bench and was yelling at the refs and/or Fran. He also said she’s a regular fixture in the press room after games, sitting in one of the two rows of seats.

I liked Fran in the beginning, but being an asshole just doesn’t resonate as well when you aren’t winning or moving the program forward

I started hating Fran after the stare down with the ref. Terrible look for him and the program. Loser mentality. Reminded me of Campbell a couple years ago in the Big 12 “CC”.

The grade is a B-.

Fran did a great job turning the program around, which probably starts him at a B. But it's also hard to ignore him leaving his teams' glaring weaknesses unaddressed year after year after year. No staff shakeups or seemingly any effort at all. Just ran it back every year. I think an overall C rating is fair.

As disappointing as the season has been I still want to see them make the conference tournament. What teams are we rooting against?

Grading against what standard? Expected performance at Iowa given recent history and resources, a C is harsh in my opinion.
They’d been to the tournament 3 times in 11 years. He made it 8 times in his last 12 years after having no shot for the first two basically. Finished in the top half of the league more than anyone but MSU. We outperformed all of the comparable middle-lower tier Big Ten teams in his tenure.

The Big Ten still only had 11 teams when Fran was hired. I don’t think Nebrantska was even rumored to be leaving the Big 12 yet in March of 2010. The whole sport has changed beneath his feet since he got here. Many in his shoes have long since said the hell with it. He built enough equity on the front end to maintain a solid B for his tenure, IMO.

That's been the toughest part about his tenure. It's kind of an expectations thing, ultimately. He sustained good enough results for such a long time people just ultimately grew disappointed that he never broke through to having a good team that really went anywhere in the post season.

It was super frustrating when both Murrays and Garza were on the same team, and they didn't make it anywhere. Doesn't help that ISU is so successful right now.

Right. Having players like the Murrays and Garza was great after the decade that proceeded Fran. Not really doing anything with them was less great.

He always did more with less, he could just never figure out how to start with more.
