Going to the Round of 32, without Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall, Molly Davis, 4 excellent starters.

They are in over their heads.
Look at the scores from the first round. There shouldn't even be a round of 64. It is a sport with like 25 competitive programs and nothing after that. Competitively, it has more in common with college wrestling than men's basketball.

Force Hannah to play the 4. That was dumb to stop playing Heiden bc Hannah HAD to play the 5. Heiden is better.
Is it too late for Hannah to develop a jump shot? Seems like her inability to shoot forces her to play as the undersized five.

It is true the NCAAW first round or two is mostly chalk, much more than the men.

But, that was never the point.

You can work around that. 3 out, 2 in

She also doesn't do well when pressured inside. She has to lead the league in shots blocked by the bottom of the backboard.

And you don’t do that on Saturday nights?
You’re just ball dominant?
I don’t think that question applies to my post. I’m talking about basketball offense philosophies.

It will be interesting to see how aggressive they are in the portal. They have a good team coming back, but it's young and relying on Addie Deal to be a sure fire 17+ per game scorer as a true freshman is risky. I think she could be, but you can't gamble the whole season on it.

They need another Lucy type again next year that can get her own shot and score in bunches. If Jan is going to have a Top 15 level program every year, going to have to recruit over some of the current players when needed.

If Guyton does leave, then a Lucy type and a Molly Davis type PG would be ideal out of the portal.

The freshman class will pick up the scoring in the aggregate. I like the idea of picking up a scorer in the portal but I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute necessity.

Need a 3 that can shoot from deep, and they'll be okay. Next year was always going to be the rebuilding year everyone thought this year would be.

I guess that is what I am saying, Iowa is now at the level where they should never ever be rebuilding anything. They should be reloading with 1-2 veteran high level players while still building their developmental core.

The danger going forward is that the higher level high school recruits they get (like Deal) and from further away, the more the chance that a down rebuilding year will discourage players and lead to transfers.

I think with the clout that they built nationally with Clark, they would be crazy to not reload every year.

Heiden, Stuehlke an Deal should.all score double figures, McCabe/stremlow/Guyton will all chip in, points shouldn't be a problem.

That is the hope, but I think it's dangerous to hope any longer.

The difference between a Sweet 16 this year and a .500 team and out of the tourney was Lucy Olson. If they weren't aggressive and If they didn't get her and that happens, who says Deal doesn't decommit? I'm also guessing none of those top level recruits like Harpring visit either if Iowa is sitting with a first year coach with a struggling team and a bad record.

Jansen should be pursuing the best veteran PG/Scorer that money can buy.

This year would have been the the rebuilding year until Olsen jumped on ship.

What’s the deal with the 2 Davenport North girls? One rated very high and headed to LSU, once barely in the top 100 and coming to Iowa. Very similar HS stats for the 2 this year. Both bottled up when going up against the Metro! teams with actual talent compared to the Davenport conference trash teams they otherwise played.

Jan needs to have a nice talk in the hallway with Poock after this game and bring her back with them to Iowa city.

Who was the one saying that?
Olsen has been disappointing
I only watched about 20 minutes but she seemed to have a shit ton of turnovers in that span.
I wasn’t expecting Clark but was told she was one of the best players in the country last year so based on that I’ve been disappointed.
Olsen was brutal again
I see Olsen was terrible again

my redemption tour continues

I don’t care what anyone says, we had an opportunity to get a good post to replace Czinano two years ago and for whatever reason, we couldn’t get it done. It’s a systemic issue. We had a generational player that received funding from non Iowa NIL sources and we couldn’t take advantage of that.

A national title would have taken care of much of what Doug was referring to earlier regarding momentum.

Iowa didn’t have the NIL available for that post (who I believe was from DePaul). That has improved over the last couple of years (e.g. Olsen).

Isn’t there a booster that will write big checks for top talent? The same person that paid for Lucy? I’m guessing that person will be willing to pay for another premiere transfer.

Lot of empty arenas from I’ve seen for a sport that thought they were ready for neutral site first rounds

I wish the men would go to what the women do on campus first weekend.
