Iowa still plays a fun style of basketball to watch - pressing on offense. Cutting/passing. Sometimes the athleticism isn't there to match the skill.

It was just ugly shooting int he 2nd quarter (only 8 points).

You’re watching women’s basketball, Doug. Your expectations may need to lowered since Clark has left the building. She really is a once in a lifetime type of player.
I have no expectations, just an observation.

But yeah, it really does show how completely different and special she is. There is nobody else remotely like her in college. I really like Lucy Olsen, but she plays more like a Rip Hamilton / DeMar DeRozen mid-range game off the dribble. She has trouble getting her shot off beyond 18' and has that odd hitch at the top.

I think Olsen and the freshmen will be enough to keep me interested this year. I like Mallegni and Stremlow. And it'll be cool to see AJ Guyton's daughter eventually

This is a tough watch

Maybe they will be good but will average about 30 points less a game

Second half was better, nice 20 point win. Chef O'Grady cooked their ass.

It's going to take them 10-15 games to get used to playing without Clakr and then also the freshmen don't seem quite ready for primetime. You can tell Mallegni is going to be a weapon though.

Today was 4-18 from 3s and i think that will be a strength most nights too.

Was an ugly watch for half the game.

Lucy is clearly the #1 and needs the ball in her hands ala Caitlin -- but different in what she does when she has the ball. Tremendous on the left handed layup side and quick pull ups. Outside of Lucy creating her own shot, the team seemed to lack offensive identity otherwise. Until they started feeding Beef in he second half, tough to tell where points were going to come from on the perimeter.

Need one other guard to step up and become a dependable scoring provider.

Oof. This really does suck overall without Clark. The game is right back to being very slow and tons of missed shots and people falling down every other play.
now try driving to Pella and doing it in person for 12 hours.

she’s pretty small. She was the camp counselor for one of my girls and she’s barely taller than her.

Beef O'Grady is back!
It’s Beef O’Gravy. But, she had a great game. The team looked promising. Could be a fun season even knowing it can never measure up to the Clark years.

We're currently boat racing Toledo. I would assume Toledo isn't good but they went 28-6 last year (presumably lost of a lot?)

Announcers said Toledo won the MAC the last three years and beat Michigan the last 2, so they must be decent. Hawks looking good.

Why was Iowa never in the mix for that girl who is going to LSU?

Lucy Olsen would have played well with Clark. I have only watched five minutes of this game but they missed her at least 3 times she was open on cuts to the basket.

They just had a girl foul out who played 14 minutes lol
In 7th grade one of my teammates fouled out in 1 minute and 42 seconds of game time. They even forgot to count 1 of his fouls so he fouled 6 times in less than 2 minutes. He didn’t understand the rules of basketball.

Had a kid foul out in less than a minute in seventh grade. Fouled like five strait inbounds in a row

Did I hear actual students chanting during the game? The team looks pretty good.
Fun to see the new additions getting early minutes and playing well.

@Herbie2 probably knows.
She's always wanted to go out of state and never liked Iowa (the school, not the state). She wasn't shy about liking social media posts that painted the Iowa women's program or CC in a negative light, so not much of a surprise that there was very little dialogue there.

She can play, but when I saw her up close at a scrimmage last year I was shocked by how she treated her coach and just completely ignored what she was told to do at time. I have no idea why she would choose to play for Mulkey instead of Staley, but I assume $$$'s were involved.

She seems perfect for Mulkey
