Like Jerry Jones. Dude is top 40 wealthy. Own your team all you want, but why are you so involved in the day to day.

I sort of get this one. It's like the ultimate fantasy football or Madden team. He'd probably have titles if he got out of the way, but it's not like he's crunching the salary cap math to figure out how to structure a guard's contract. He just wants the team to sign players he likes because it's a fun game for him.

Someone like Belichick? Fuck that. Especially college in this day and age.

This one barely seems to count as work. Spend the week fishing in Florida. Fly in Saturday, have a meeting, have a big dinner on the company dime, bullshit about football with your buddies for a few hours, fly back home. Do for five months, cash a $1M check. It's not like those guys are doing film study.

People need purpose, especially talented people that desire to have some sort of self-worth and human contact along with it.

These guys often try fishing or sitting on a beach and get bored within a couple of days. They work because they LOVE it and it makes them feel alive.

Now, that doesn't mean they want to work 40 or 60 hours and have tons of responsibility, but they want to be connected and have their hand in things and feel like they are useful.

Lime described it here with a guy like Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban or others like them. Have most of the week to do whatever you want, then some fun travel and the rush of performing and then back home to relax and do that from August - January while making millions.

- Fly private to a different location every weekend and come in on Friday night. Relax, have some dinner and hang with the crew. Do a TV show in the morning, hop on a private jet if you need to and call an exciting football game Saturday night. Fly home private right after and sleep in your own bed.

- Sunday - Wednesday hang out and maybe do a tv spot when the rankings come out. Prep for the coming games.

- Thursday - fly in private to call a NFL game, fly home after

I've felt for awhile that Herbstreit seems like he might be kind of a depressed guy. Like the animals traveling along and on starring on twitter is emotional support level. All the travel might be somewhat analogous to the Bourdain thing.

Apparently the issue was that he hates NIL and was not all-in on it. Somehow they have no NIL money. They were going to take the money from his restructured contract and put it toward NIL. I would have told them to kick rocks and fire me and buy me out. They are all stupid.

It's all bullshit. Today has been a reflection of that in the later games. $20m Texas roster vs. $20m Georgia roster and follow that up with $20m Oregon roster vs. $15m Penn State roster.

really big initially, they go to 14 (but not past it) in year 3, peak in year 3-4 but start dropping off as sameness settles in and too many teams are quasi-locked out. which is sort of the pattern that a lot of these new/expanded playoffs/competitions follow. the reality is you aren't really creating that many new fans, just trying to shuffle or maximize existing ones.

the big ten wants four automatic spots, the SEC doesn't want any automatic spots for anyone, and the rest of CFB sort of recognizes that automatic spots are needed for them but retarded for anything besides a champion so expansion hits a block. 14 with two byes gets rid of the weird seeding problems.

they also don't have that many time slots to play games. they couldn't get another full TV partner (TNT is just sub-licensing games) and ESPN isn't going to want to stack games against each other. two of the first round games are going to get absolutely slaughtered going against the NFL this year as it is.
