Maybe FCS seasons should only count as 3 for every 4 seasons. Possible angle to sue the NCAA

It really does say something that Iowa gives up 27 points to a 10-2 SEC team at a neutral site with the runner up Heisman QB and explosive WR's and Iowa fans (including myself) thinks the defense played like shit for a big chunk of the game and the last 2 years. Phil Parker is the best.

The defense was good all season. Had a few tough moments. The drop in LB play was likely the most challenging aspect for Phil.
Seems that Iowa can score more points on offense and still have a good defense

Top 5 offense and we held them to 3 in the first half.

Watching the games over the last few days has made me even more happy to be an Iowa fan and a Kirk fan. So many dumb coaches, the state of college football in such a stupid spot, etc.

This has to be the best "disappointing" season the Hawks have had from an enjoyment perspective. Just fucking throttling Wisconsin and Nebrantska on the road and dominating Minnesota. The 4 losses were great games with heartbreaker outcomes. The only true stain is the ISU game, and we all know the series should just be abandoned.

Even got the win over a ranked team to appease @The Dad.

Really one of the more enjoyable seasons in a long time.

It's never going away. Too many people inexplicably love it.

If you asked every Iowa fan who the Hawks biggest rival is, Iowa State would win in a landslide. The desire to drop it comes from the vocal but more online crowd. It doesn't match reality.

This does provide the clearest path to dropping it, though. If Iowa State slides into pre-2000s irrelevance while the B10/SEC get further away from the pack then there's a (very small) chance it gets dropped some day. But it won't happen soon.

I might say the same thing, but that has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not I would choose to drop the series.

I'm basing my comment on the non-online crowd, btw. Perhaps I'm just way off on this one. You really think the vast majority of Iowa fans would choose to keep the series?

Yes. At least 8 of every 10 fans would choose to keep it. It's comfortable, familiar and they like to talk about it in the cubicle maze.
This is fucking mind blowing to me. I must know very different Iowa fans from you guys.

I would guess that a majority of Iowa fans "root for both teams". Gross.

WTF??? No way.
I haven't lived in Iowa for quite awhile now so maybe it's changed, but based on conversations with non-online Iowa fans, yes. Online message board communities are loud, but small and usually not very representative of the larger group.

Yeah, as I've mentioned, my comment was based on Iowa fans I know who are certainly not on any message boards.

About half of my family roots for Iowa State when they aren't playing Iowa.

It's weird

Could be your select group of friends, could be confirmation bias. Probably a bit of both.

But it isn't that surprising. Something like 4/10 people who start college drop out before earning a degree. Off the top of my head I knew one in college. And it isn't like my friends were all Rhodes scholars.

8/10 is probably a good number, but if forced to go higher or lower I'd choose higher.

I never really encountered “root for the clones as long as they’re not playing Iowa” people much at all until I moved to the KC Metro for work.

It’s a thing, especially in the Johnson County, KS crowd. Probably the same people that actually go to Power and Light.

One neighbor (season ticket holder) definitely roots for State when they aren't playing Iowa. The other neighbor (season ticket holder) appears to be somewhat neutral, but definitely holds no outward angst for them.

I had friends play at ISU and they didn’t win a game most of my life growing up. I didn’t really care about ISU until I moved to DSM and wanted them all to get fucked.

Why is Northwestern building a 35,000 seat stadium in the Big Ten? Because what "fans" want is nothing compared to what "donors" want. Donors want there to be an Iowa v. Iowa State game.

And as stated above, if Iowa State becomes Iowa State of the 80's again then it becomes a money making game with a W 95% of the time.

I am not a root for Iowa State on days they are not playing Iowa kind of guy either. A few years ago at Nebrantska the wife of my friend, who is an Iowa State fan, asked me if I would cheer for Iowa State on other days. My response was "I want Iowa State to lose so badly they consider disbanding football." ... my dream is getting closer lately.

This is because even the actual members of their program are far less retarded than their fanbase.

Best way I've ever heard it put is ISU could be battling Satan for the fate of all humanity and I'd have a pentagram drawn on my living room floor.

I’d prefer a world in which I never thought of Iowa State football at all. Rooting for their misery isn’t something I want to do, but I’m left with no choice.
It’s difficult to be in any semblance of proximity to them and not be drawn into their insanity.

This weekend, I had to advise my teenage son that he should no longer continue; that it was a waste of time… a text discussion with a ISU fan classmate after he was inundated with messages during multiple games about how outside of the top 2 team, the B12 is just as good as the B10…how Texas Tech was just as good as Oregon except that Morton sucks, etc. They’re entirely divorced from reality and any attempt to discuss college sports with them is futile.

17th in the final AP Poll.

Iowa deserves to end the season ranked somewhere around #17, but of course there is no CFP poll at the end of the year and the AP and Coaches still didn't have Iowa ranked in their latest poll despite them being ranked #23.

I'm guessing they end up at #24 or #23 in the final AP poll and maybe #22 in the Coaches.
They’ll sneak just inside the top 20 and I’ll point out what a STUPID IDIOT you are.
