I'm sorry, roast me if the season goes well and I know I'm being a fucking bitch about this, but I can't fucking suffer any more seasons where the pasty white sons of Iowa coaches run around with a dumb look on their face.

You can blame Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, Jon The Criminal, Connor McCaffery, Patrick McCaffery, Nelson Brands and whoever else carries the blood of an Iowa coach and their parents on why anyone feels this way.

Another 4-7 fucking years of watching Peyton McCollum and for certain his younger midget brother run around playing for daddy isn't all that interesting unless there are multiple Sweet 16's or better mixed in.

I am stupid as all of my posts have shown, but you're risking killing all of your momentum in order to play your own kid. Especially when that doomed the previous coach less than two years ago.

He works so hard though! Gym rat! Tenacious on defense! Great in the locker room!

I know we give Wade shit, but I think pretty much all of us would be lying if we said we are glad that Peyton McCollum is on the team.

But I'll trust Ben McCollum until proven otherwise.

Jesus Christ. The season is just getting started. This is the fun time and you should be enjoying thinking about how things might end up clicking and they have a great season. Plenty of time to piss and moan during losses that will come, but I really don’t get being negative now. I’m excited as hell for the season.

Basically that Thompson and Harris are behind the guys that play and out of the rotation because they don't make winning plays. Long season and that could change, but for now both are outside looking in.

Take it up with McCollum.

Of course. We’d all prefer a backcourt of Coleman and Daughtry.

The guy who took a 10-10 douche team (in his first season where every scout was new) to the Elite 8 while facing a better seeded team each game? Okay. Will do.
Yep, awesome and we all loved that. Now he seems to be ramming his freshman son into the lineup for significant minutes. Let's see how it works out, but history ain't a fan of it.

The bigger question is what basketball coach at a high level has it ever worked out for playing his son(s) in the end? The list is pretty short on who it worked for, and a long list on who it didn't.

Iowa (or related) alone it either made the coach a laughing stock (The Criminal) or got him run out of town (McCaffery) or didn't go well for (Alford at UCLA, Pearl at Tennessee). It didn't end well last year for DeVries at Indiana. It helped draw closer the end of of Boehiem at Syracuse. Fans couldn't stand Tubby Smith playing his sons. Indiana fans weren't a fan of Patrick Knight.

It worked for McDermott at Creighton. It worked at Georgia State for RJ Hunter. Both of those guys were clear NBA talent early on though, so that of course mitigated the risk. Hoiberg got it to work for a year.

Lol that 7 of the 10 examples were either connected to Iowa or born in Iowa. Nepotism is a disease.

At what point do the people who laughed at Waukee Wade for saying McCollum is going to play start to come forward with apologies?
Laughing about any Hawkeye kid who busts their ass is really pathetic. Especially when they produce, as Peyton did last night.

He’s not going to play significant minutes in the douche unless there is an injury, major foul trouble, or a blowout. He may get around 2 minutes in a “normal” game. He’ll get more in the noncon because everyone does against shitty teams.

Still no reason to be negative about this after one scrimmage where Ben already said he would have done things differently if it was a real game.

I don't like repeating cliches, but it can work if he is clearly one of the best players, or an end of the bench mascot.

And maybe the Goat is correct and he won't get real minutes, but I sort of doubt it.

If he gets real minutes and sucks, I will absolutely be pissed. I don’t see why we should expect that WITH BEN at this point though.

I’m curious which halo posters feel like we would’ve made the elite eight last year with peyten McCollum in the rotation.

Because he was going to play from the beginning if he hadn’t got hurt.

So, while a lot of luck goes into the ultimate result of NCAA tournament, our coach was willing to risk playing his kid on a team that was capable of making the elite eight.

It seems pretty clear that McCollum isn't going to play somebody because of their recruiting ranking or NIL contract. They're going to have to prove it once they get in the program.

We should probably be happy about this, but fans will need to adjust their expectations for recruits and transfers.

Trey Thompson will learn how to play defense or be out of the program at the end of the year.
