I'm irrationally pumped for this off-season. I'd been ready for Fran to be gone for several years but didn't really know how things would go for McCollum. But he surpassed any expectations by far. Need a primary ballhandler/scoring guard this off-season, excited to see what they do

For roughly 30 years, the approval rating for our basketball coach has been lukewarm to bad. Only exceptions were the first two years of the Alford era and a few years with Fran.

I'm an outlier, but for the portal I'm fine with just one guard, the young man formerly committed to Creighton, and a very tall individual.

I just hope that guard is somebody rather exceptional like the Colorado player. If not, then grab 2 of them

With Stirtz’s money off the books and the hope that some people cough up some more money I hope we can be a little active. Would be really nice for Koch and Sage to become high level players every night for us.

And if that's the case, we will have to lean quite a bit on Combs and Howard next year, which is fine. Combs really started to turn the corner at the end of this season and I think Howard will do the same next year.

Combs was so frustrating to watch. He’ll never be the guy you run stuff for, but I think he’s perfectly capable of being more of a threat on offense. Get to the rim a couple times, shoot his little floater, and maybe make a 3 here and there.

I’m hoping he has a little more confidence next year to take some shots he passed up this season.

Yep, he's entering the portal, likely today. It's more Iowa than Alvaro, but it's mutual on some level. His $1m+ for a 7th man not worth it and going to get a (likely) expensive true center and PG.

Idiot IowaFan will freak out, but with Koch / Thompson / Harris on the wing and them needing a high level PG and C, it makes a lot of sense to use that $1m elsewhere.

Alvaro was a great first year plug to ensure competitiveness (then he had some great moments in the tourney) but I trust the 50 person staff can identify (presumably already has) a replacement that's more of a fit and likely even more talented.

he had a great 3 game stretch in the tournament which is what sometimes makes guys money. he also showed in the elite 8 what we saw more of in the regular season.

It's best case for everyone. He has his best moment in 40 years of Iowa basketball and can make a bunch of money somewhere that's a better fit for him. No losers in this.
