The second closest I can think of was 2014 Iowa State. A truly horrible 2-10 team that was so bad that #3 TCU beat them 55-3 and dropped in the rankings the final game of the season. I would say 2 other Top 10 All-Time Kirk losses happened that season as well. The final game when Nebrantska had quit and Iowa refused to let them lose and gave away the game in overtime. It was so bad that Nebrantska won and Bo Pelini still got fired. The other was the complete humiliation in the bowl game by Tennessee to end that year where it was so bad that Beathard's dad gave Kirk an ultimatum and Barta put Kirk on notice.

I'd have to say beyond those 4 games, you can throw in the Western Michigan game in 2007 where they lost and got left out of a bowl game, maybe that Minnesota game where Coker ran for 250+ yards. 2006 Northwestern game. 2010 Northwestern game. 2010 Minnesota game.

Kirk has had some real terrible losses, but I think today was the worst one ever.

That 2010 Minnesota game was just God awful. I remember driving down to the QC to watch it with my old man. We had a very good team that had been slightly disappointing, and Minnesota was horrendous and had just fired their head coach.

It was pretty embarrassing

It was a tremendously shitty loss to an average at best opponent, but I think we’re being a little hysterical.

Ultimately, the staff’s biggest sin was wanting these turds to be something they’re not and refusing to spend on a better QB in the portal. These 2 guys simply aren’t playoff level QBs.

Michigan sucking has hurt Iowa on that front. They probably need Wisconsin to win out (after losing to Iowa) and Nebrantska to win out before Iowa (including a win at Ohio State). The latter in particular could set up Black Friday as a quasi play-in game.

Pretty long shot though. They could wind up with like four top 30 wins but no top 25 wins.

Iowa has gone 84 consecutive games without a 300 yard passer. The last time was 2019 by Stanley vs. Illinois.

It's more than twice as long as the closest team and nearly 3x as long as the 2nd closest.

Earlier in the season, the complaint was they were throwing it to him too much.

Bottom line is there were plays to be made and both QBs missed way too often. RBs fumbled the ball like I haven't seen in a long time and ST fucked up. Then coaching sucked. It's the sloppiest I have seen the Hawks play in a LONG time.

That was before the season blew up overall and college football is having a historic year where there aren't any unbeaten teams and just about everyone is going to end up 10-2. That is because they are. Purdue boat raced the team Iowa just lost to. Illinois just kicked the dog shit out of Oregon at home, a place that Iowa has to play in a few weeks. Wisconsin is ranked. Northwestern is ranked. Nebrantska is much improved.

They are going to win some games, but 0-5 isn't some far fetched impossibility either.

IF Iowa wins out (lol) I believe they would comfortably be in the playoff. It's not going to happen, but they would make it especially with there not really being a completely dominate team this year. OSU seems to be the best (not sold on Miami yet), but even they lost to a shitty Texas team.
