The 2008 Iowa State game…Christensen came in, completed 4/5 passes for 27 yards after Stanzi struggled throwing 2 picks on 5/14 in a horrible weather game. Kirk then started Jake against Pitt where he went 12/24 for 124 yards. They actually played Stanzi in that game where Stanzi went 7/10 for 79 yards. Kirk was done with Jake after that game.

My biggest concern is they do the same thing this year. IMO they just need to pick a guy. They keep talking about everything they grade them on being almost identical…ok so shouldn’t the expected production be the same? So pick one, if he can’t do it with the lights on go to the other guy.
I don't love the idea of "we may play both and see who wins out" to start the year. That just means you have no clue. Pick one.

Right. And every rep that is split is a rep the starter isn’t getting.

Whoever is the starter gets all, nearly all, the reps per kf
That starts Sunday or whatever

Just pick one. Unless he sucks. Then switch.

Odds are both guys are going to play week 1, albeit mop up time for one of them. I also want them to pick one (Heck), but the first 3 games could be an opportunity to see both of them against live competition. If the 1st guy plays great, leave him in as starter. If he's shaky at all, give the other a shot.

If the Indiana game is any indication, I don't think Hank can piss at a urinal if there's anyone else in the room.
He may turn out to be dogshit, but that *was* a quarter's worth of action against the undefeated and eventual national champion when he got zero reps with the 1's that week. I, for one, would prefer to not judge him based on that and give him another shot.

Players have to unexpectedly come into football games all the time. If you are #2 at any position, you better be ready, and it’s on the coaches to pick someone who can handle it.

At the same time, I don't trust Kirk to pick a starting QB at all, so maybe an active competition would be better than the alternative.

That’s basically what they’re doing. They’re both going to play so why does it matter which one they pick at this point? They’re going to figure out which one can’t do it with the lights on.

I bet Hank is great at the Hank/Dovetail drill, just like Peaches was. Kirk loves that shit.
Kirk’s very strong bias is in favor of limited do it right guy over more talented and charismatic/improvisational gunslinger guy. I’d love for him to change as his great career reaches its sunset, but my expectation is that Stank Brown is trotting out for the first snap next Saturday.

Well, thankfully, it's Lester making the decision and not Kirk.

Counterpoint: it was a screen pass...aaaalllright I watched the lowlights and it wasn't an abject failure. Made a couple nice throws- DID complete a screen pass. Put int was bad, other screen pass was awful and missed badly with game on the line in last drive. Stevens missing that kick didnt help.

Still a Hecklinski lean

How about the last scrimmage then when he was off the mark with most of his throws and looked out of sync with footwork etc?
