If he's like every other ISU high school recruit he'll transfer before his junior year.

@eclone wonders why people think of Cyclone fans as little brother.

This is one of those commitments that I would write in pencil and not pen if I were ISU

I don't see the point of even bothering with high schoolers at this point.

from a money ball perspective it seems totally foolhardy.

eventually some schools will catch on and rely entirely on transfer portal.

This is an idiotic take for schools like Iowa. They have decent to very good local home grown talent that will come and develop and stay loyal over the whole time and likely offer you a discount.

Iowa would be insane to not recruit high schoolers.

In every sport, Iowa is going to be best off recruiting heavily and supplementing with the portal.

football is doing ok with portal. basketball can't land mid-major pgs who didn't come in with the coach. same old same old.

mccollum needs to win next year to get more NIL, or this could be a treadmill.

There is no way they were going to get any starting level PG besides Stirtz this year.

Not bad. A lot of role players, many asked to do too much, 5 all conference players, 2 first round draft picks.

Obviously would be nice to get a guy like AJ Green, but I’m not sure AJ Green becomes the player he is if his dad isn’t a college assistant. Same with Tucker. So can’t really call those a miss. Tyler Hall ended up with a nice college career although he is technically Illinois I believe. There really wasn’t a ton of other instate guys out there that Iowa wanted, I’m sure im missing someone.

Never said he was good but he was a pretty highly rated guy. Sometimes guys don’t work out. Conversely, I also didn’t include any of the UNI or other power conference guys cuz IDGAF and know nothing about them. Simply responding to and agreeing with Doug’s take that dominating in Iowa and supplementing as needed isn’t a terrible strategy. For the reasons he indicated.

I assume Doug wasn't just limiting to those that have signed at iowa
@eclone 's list is good, but yeah want to extend that to all Iowa born or lived in players. You won't get them all of course, but you have to try.

If you go out even further to Iowa legacy players, you absolutely want to recruit HS players that have connection to the program. I know he is way beyond 10 years, but that gets you players like Marble and Koch.

Overall point is that the Iowa's in the world would be insane to not only recruit HS players, but heavily recruit them and make them their base of players each year and supplement with the transfer portal.

Kriener was the perfect Iowa bench big. We need a guy like that at all times.

The McCaffery brothers combined for close to 300 games here. I liked Connor ok at times, but that was way too much

A) iowa kids that come to iowa mostly suck.

b) the ones that dont suck will run up big stats then transfer to creighton or depaul or some shit.

Mcc kids were highly overrated. Lol at citing them for anything positive.

We r gonna get a lot of Dixs that are good players and transfer out as soon as theyre ready to pop. Frankly its a miracle dix stayed as long as he did. Talking about recruits from 3+ years ago misses the point entirely: ee are in a different era and they will transfer after putting up any stats at all.
