I also love carver. So do most visitors from other schools I speak with. There is no way the traffic logistics of a downtown arena are possible.

But this is what they should do.

1. Build two 500+ spot parking ramps (think tower place downtown) funded by facility revenue bonds- one where the hillside timber is to the west, and the other on the north side of the current dental lot. Both have elevated walkways into the Carver concourse, which alleviates pedestrian vs vehicle congestions.

2. Reconfigure the current traffic infrastructure so the current “batcave” becomes a higher capacity exit option off EB 6 directly to that new ramp and possibly (3) below. Within those ramps, there’s exit with an option to exit directly onto EB highway 6 mini flyover exit onto WB 6 that includes pedestrian walkways or ten foot paved trails from Newton and the med school to the Vine/Wig/Jethros bar district and the Iowa River Trail.

3. Move either the dental school (assume this happening in the next couple decades anyways)/RMH OR, more likely, the Soccer practice field, in favor of a new mixed use entertainment area, developed through public-private partnership. Build a pedestrian bridge over Highway 6 from the new bars to the Vine/Wig with Jamie Pollards picture on it and the name of the new area, which is the Legend12 Clear Creek-City Sports Mecca.

The results is that you have additional square footage for a couple airport-sized brand name bars (bww, spoco?). Below the new extended concourse you build an experience similar to Pacha in Kinnick. You could put an escalator and elevator there that goes down to the suites all the way to current floor level.

connect the nature trail south of the strip to the iowa river trail along the river. I believe that area is some part of drainage area so it would need to be built up anyways.

The inefficiency of getting pedestrians across hwy 6/Hawkins is a main driver of the clusterfuck. Also put a bridge connecting the new bars in was is currently dental lot with the baseball stadium. One of the bars should have a rooftop.
