I feel like Patrick is more of a 2 than a 4 right now. Maybe it’s a mental thing due to his frame, but he completely tries to avoid contact and it’s reflected in his shooting percentage. He can get his own shot.

The game was all down to the rebounding and I can see the McCaffery's are the whipping boys but it was everyone. Shit, Keegan only had 2 in 30 minutes. Some of it was just getting overpowered by Kofi but they beat us to so many loose balls or knocked it away when we weren't strong with it. Perkins had been a good rebounding guard, he had 0. Connor had 0, Ulis had 0. Rebraca had 6 defensive boards, Kris had 3, no one else had more than 1.

Really weird game with the huge runs and such huge disparities in different areas. I wouldn't have guessed that we beat them up on points in the paint and shot better from 2. Keegan wasn't himself until late and the offense got bogged down with several different lineups in the half court.

We knew Iowa would struggle to rebound against bigger teams. The refs were allowing physical play, and Cockburn was allowed to dip his shoulder to create space as well as run through guys when chasing rebounds. Not much Iowa could do to stop him when the refs are letting things go.

Remarkable the game was close.

After this game, Iowa is at 200 of 358 teams in defensive 3PT% at 33.7%. The only league members worse are Rutgers and Maryland.

Need to tighten up / correct that or the league is going to be a shit show. Iowa State is in the Top 20 and holding teams to 26.5% from 3PT.

I don't really like Toussaint or bohannon at this point but the combination of them together makes it worse IMO. Toussaint can't run anything in the half court to get bohannon a look if he ever happened to get any space. Toussaint also would probably be more impactful with another defensive guard to take advantage of his pressure. With bohannon out their you can't speed the other team up fully because they always get a breather with bohannon and an automatic target for late shot clock situations.

Players are going to have bad games and miss free throws and fuck up. That is fine, but coaches can't fuck up like Fran and staff did at the end of the first half and most of the second half of this game. There is no excuse for not realizing that a single player is murdering you and you need to adjust to stop him.

He's out of rhythm with the starters. He's in the flow with Ulis, Perkins, Kris.

Fran is loyal to a fault. It's why his players love him and why he drew up a play for Zach "Suck a Fat One" McCabe. But it's time to move the Seniors into phase 1 retirement. Tighten the rotation to Murray, Murray, Perkins, Ulis, Toussaint, Patrick, Rebraca, and Sandfort, with Connor and Jorbo in small doses.

If Pat were better with defensive position and rebounding he would be really good. If he was a little more patient on offense he would be great.

Patrick also likes some extended trips to the hoop. Love the aggression on his drives, but when he takes the scenic route it kills the continuity of the offense. Sometimes he looks like an overenthusiastic pickup player.

I caught the second half and was puzzled how Keegan was missing all those bunnies in the lane. But holy shit was it fun watching him dunk twice and score twelve in a row at the end.

Illinois turned it over on ~20% of their possessions. The defensive pressure was the only reason Iowa was in this game.

If the starters aren't scoring, Ulis and Perkins need to be on the floor a hell of a lot more.

Agreed, but too often the defense lets down after the opposition gets into the front court. We still give us way, way to many wide open threes. Also, if we hit our free throws last night we are probably tied or within a bucket during the last 2 minutes.
