Garza is our best player
Mid-way through his sophomore year he is already the player most of us probably hoped Woodbury would become, at least offensively. His game is pretty advanced for someone his age. That Iowa has players capable of actually feeding him the ball helps too.
That head fake and step through Garza put on Watkins was bonerific footwork. Lost art with the way the game is played today.

It would have been greatly appreciated in black and white. I thought I was at the YMCA at noon

Connor has sucked lately, but is still light years better than Brady and Wagner. If he can get to even mediocre, and bohannon decides to continue not be a faggot then I'm a full 4 inches making all of you guys with little dicks jealous.
Connor is good if there are shooters on the floor with him. He really needs to work on that for next year.
He's made some really bad passes lately. Flat out lazy, and I know lazy.
We, Mav.

Which combo was/is better?

Woodbury/Olaseni or Garza/Kriener
W/O were a lot better defensively but G/K are a lot better offensively. It's probably close now, but G/K should be comfortably ahead by the end of next season if they continue on their current trajectory.
I’d trade Garza for Woody right now. Woody’s defensive presence was invaluable and we have enough other offensive weapons to make up the loss of scoring.

This Iowa team would be better if Woody was on it, because the defense would be much improved.

Gave you a like because I agree with your point relative to this specific team. But the things Garza can do offensively, including drawing fouls and converting, are really fantastic. One of my best Hawk friends sort of makes the same argument with regard to Gesell.

Yeah, my comment was specific to the makeup of this team only.

Garza is a beast offensively.

We don't win at NW or at PSU with Woody on the roster instead of Garza. An argument could be made that Woody would be better alongside Cook, but even then I think Garza's offensive skills make him the better choice. The ability to put 4 legit shooters around Cook creates so much pressure on the defense.

I'd trade Kreiner for Doug Thomas. This team is suffering from a serious dearth of dunks outside of Cook and Till.

You think penn State has a dunk fest like they did last night with Woody in the paint? Also, I think our perimeter defense would be better because Woody would shut down the paint. No need to scramble as much if you have a rim protector.

We would have been without a real post scorer in both games. Kreiner did have a good offensive night against PSU I guess, but Garza getting NW into massive foul trouble was simple irreplaceable in that game.

I just don't think the defensive advantages of Woody outweigh the offensive advantages of Garza in the grand scheme of things.

Woodbury averaged 0.5 block/game. In their final year Jarrod Uthoff had more blocks (86) than Woodbury had his entire career (71).

Baer blocks a lot of shots. He should be defensive player of the year I guess.

The way we get beat on dribble drives, we'd be better served with an Erek Hansen type weak side shot blocker in the paint than a guy like Woody. Woody would be in foul trouble before halftime.

But I wouldn't trade Garza for anybody. Remember, he's only a true soph. He's going to be incredible in two years.

Woody had 71 blocks as a 7-footer in 4 seasons (138 games), including 10 his senior year in 33 games. What a rim protector!

Woody didn't block shots, he stopped opposing guards from dribbling uncontested in the lane, a feat our current players seem unable to accomplish.

Kriener and Moss are similar to me because I scream "why the fuck can't you just keep doing that" at the tv versions of them during most games.

Say what? The other 'offensive weapons' are partly effective because of Garza. Put Woodbury in this rotation and everyone has a little less room to operate.

Having a true center with a strong offensive game is a luxury very few teams have.

I loved Woody but Garza is so much more gifted offensively. He reminds me of Frank Kaminsky. Garza has improved a ton on defense this year too, at least to my eye.
