They also went to two sweet sixteens, an elite eight and a final four. Were a five seed or better seven times. Not sure how much you need. If you want to go round and round with Iowa Basketball pre-93 and post-93, well, help yourself.

I'm frustrated with Fran and would be fine if he got canned or if he didn't. The terrible defense is my biggest beef. I just don't get it. It's like our players don't understand basic defensive principles, and then on top of it they don't hustle either. It's an embarrassment.

That being said, Garza being out is the problem right now. We are immensely worse without him. Cook is probably a better player than Garza, but we'd be a better team if Cook was the one who was hurt. When Garza is back and healthy we'll look much better and will win more.

I agree. Garza being out is a huge loss. I’m just troubled by how soft they were. Effort shouldn’t be something you worry about.

The only season this might have been true was '95-96. Almost every year between '79 and '93 Iowa was expected to contend for a douche crown.

96-97 Iowa finished second in the douche to a cheating Clem Haskins. In 99 they beat Kansas on the road and very nearly defeated eventual national champ uconn to go to the elite 8.

I will concede the freakish and emotional overperformance of 1999.

97-98 is the year that led to the announcement of one more year for Davis. They got run out of the douche tournament by Michigan after a lackluster year; Oliver and Davis were freshman, and some 7’3” project got bad press for knocking his girlfriend around. The year ended really negatively.

96-97 was all goodwill, as that was a rather bad team + Woolridge that overachieved.
