I’m sort of glad Banks bricked the fuck out of a FT to start because I was already sick of the conversation around the consecutive FT record.

Chris Street will not be forgotten if someone hits 35 free throws in a row. If anything, it simply gives people another reason to bring him up.

All the nerd stats say Howard should play way more and Combs should play way less. Those stats show Howard as one of the top 2 defenders on the team

Love that between Combs, Howard, Sage and Koch, someone always seems to step up each game. Not sure what the deal is with Manyawu lately though. Seems like he’s mostly disappeared over the last month.

He missed those 4 free throws, but he made multiple huge plays at the end of the game.

Manyow has been fine imo. Hes never going to put up huge stats byt great role player. At this point he is basically the backup 4/5 to koch/folgers and he is doing great in that role.

I wish he would have broken it so that we never had to hear about bohannon missing on purpose again.

As an aside, did you guys know that Aaron White once stayed the night in Carver?

That was an awesome second half. We are really rounding into form now. Things are clicking for a lot of the guys. We’re talking seeding in year 1 for Coach McCollum. Thank you, Ben. Thank you, Beth.

This may sound stupid. But that early loss @MSU was huge in regards to Ben’s growth as a coach. Blown the fuck out, a complete mismatch, that game reframed how incredibly difficult and how much effort it takes to win a I am a giant douche road game.

The next road game..at Hilton against a top 10 team. Iowa came out swinging. They were a play or two away from a huge upset.

Since that game, sure they’ve lost in the road, but they haven’t looked overwhelmed. They’ve competed each time out even when they were sick af.

Now they just completed the PNW sweep against a decimated Oregon team and pretty damned talented Washington team.

I’m proud of this team for how they’ve stuck together. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. And ultimately that leads back to the top.
these west coast trips are fucking tough and this is a great sign as far as how he runs the program.

Eh, you have to remember that there are probably more UW fans watching the broadcast and they have absolutely no clue on the backstory. Even guys like Maclean probably had no idea until recently.

but yes, it’s fair for us to be sick of it.

I need to watch closer but he also seems to draw Mccollums wrath on the defensive side and has a quick hook bc of it.

One of my favorite feelings in the entire world is waking up in late winter when the temperature starts going up and the snow is gone, and my team is playing for seed in the NCAA tournament.

Great signs of good coaching and good teams is every single guy is getting better and every single guy has a great attitude and works their ass off each game. You could argue that Stirtz actually was the weak link in some ways as far as effort, but he has really stepped up his pace on both ends.

He made up for those missed FT and then some afterwards. I went from pissed to elated very quickly with him last night

I like that McCollum doesn't give a shit who it is. If you're dogging it he's going to get in your ass. Stirtz bitching about not getting a foul call and McCollum is absolutely screaming at him to quit bitching and get back on D. Fran's teams would've folded in the first half last night.

I have ripped on stirtz but in fairness, it was clearly a foul and part of the reason he didn’t get back on defense was because he got launched in between the basket support and a cameraman

That was every Iowa fan last night standing 3 feet from their TV with the volume on 4 so they wouldn’t wake up the other people in their house.
Gotta have the Apple TV + Airpods combo + YouTube TV. Game changing.

Thanks for the info. We should connect and I'll share some inside info about McCollum and the snickers bar. It's great stuff!

Nice to see Alvaro have a good game after starting slow. Prior to last night, he seemed to be a guy you could judge how his game will go depending on his first few minutes.
I thought that Alvaro had a huge part in the team's better D in the second half. He was hedging the screen at top of the key, then getting back to cover his guy rolling to the basket. He worked his butt off.

He's started driving much more instead of just trying to back people down. He was great in the first half last night.

I’m disappointed we didn’t sign a lead guard but I would think Iowa would be pretty attractive for a transfer
Keep an eye on Wake Forest commit Quentin Coleman. He chose Wake over Iowa this fall and has been shooting up the rankings. Steve Forbes is almost assuredly getting canned this year, so I could see Iowa getting involved again.

The difference in their ability to hedge and recover from the trauma we’ve all had to endure the last few years is quite stark.

I would be shocked if he's not fired.
