something that has stuck out during multiple games is Koch being undersized down low but fighting his ass off
His defense has been fantastic. He can guard almost every position.

Folgers defense has really come around too. Today was his best game yet.

I've posted that I always thought he would get rolling in January, he was just a little behind, but he's the clear #2 on the team.

Hausen is next, but not until late January or early February when he finally finds his role.

Howard doesn't dribble well with his left hand so I don't get having him be the secondary option to Stirtz bringing the ball up so much today. But his play reminds me of at times of Eric May. In addition to the weak left hand he plays tough defense, is strong and decently athletic, and comes through with some big plays. I can't figure out Combs. He has good skills but appears nonchalant and sloppy on offense at times. Thought he'd add a little more to the team on that end. Stirtz didn't seem like he had a 27 point game, he's sneaky good. Got some rest time today too. Really missing another consistent 3 point shooter, Hausen is needed.

@Bovert must have HATED seeing the entire UCLA staff wearing full suits.

I thought the crowd was decent, considering Iowa kind of didn't give much to cheer about in the first part of the second half. Really got on the refs toward the end of the game. Had a great time today, love McCollum's controlled fire.

Howard is a damn fine rebounder for his size, too. He is a great energy guy. He missed those three shots in a row but all three were good shots. I fucking love this team.

He guarded the 1 - 4 positions throughout the game. Very versatile

Dent shooting 19 2’s and 0 3’s as a PG in 2026 is astounding.

I thought our defense was as good as can be in the first half. 2nd half they benefited from turnovers and missed shots so were able to get in transition. And sometimes Dent just did crazy stuff.

Everyone we could throw at him defensively was in foul trouble so he was getting pretty much whatever he wanted later in the game. He hit that same little turnaround J in the middle of the lane over and over. He is really good.

UCLA takes a ton of mid range jumpers. It’s basically been their offense most of the year. It was aided by the game becoming a foul fest.

Next game at Minnesota on Tuesday, they have been playing a lot better beating Northwestern on the road and can be dangerous at home as they beat Indiana a few weeks ago. After that, a true gauntlet the next 3 games with Illinois, Purdue and then Indiana on the road.

If they can make it through that at 2-2, they are in good shape the next 6 game stretch to maybe win all of them. Get to 10-3 or 9-4 in conference before getting Purdue and Nebrantska back to back.

Is it weird that I love Stirtz but also think he has no chance in the NBA? Yes I know the projected rankings, etc.

The NBA is a little bit of a crap shoot. You could have said the same thing about AJ Green and he just signed a 4 year $45 million contract and is averaging 10 ppg.

Stirtz is shooting 43% from 3 after shooting 40% last year. That translates to the NBA. He’ll just be asked to bring the ball up a little bit and shoot open 3s. NBA games are played in the 115-130 range most nights so his defense isn’t that big of a deal (he’s not bad on that end anyway).

He’s quicker than he looks and understands angles well. He will be fine at the NBA level.

Mick Cronin looks like a third rate divorce lawyer or casino dealer.

You would never look at him and guess that he is a major college basketball coach.

I liked when we made him throw his jacket at the bench

I think Doug or someone mentioned it before but I love how business like they are after a win and not jumping around like a bunch of dorks like past teams
Paraphrasing what McCollum said in the post game, “the guys just love to compete. It feels good to win, but more than anything else they are happy for a few minutes then it is about moving on to the next opponent and their next opportunity to compete”.

Was just looking at the UCLA game last year where we got blown the fuck out.

They shot 62% from the field.

We only had 10 defensive rebounds. They had 11 offensive rebounds

It was weird seeing the crowd react to great defensive plays and using that as a way to fire things up as opposed to an occassional bohannon 3pt from the logo.

Aside from the occasional “Let’s go Hawks” chant and the arena coming alive after a good sequence, Carver doesn’t seem to have much history with coordinated fan participation or shared in-arena “bits” done in unison, especially compared to places like MSU, Duke, or ISU. This feels less like a criticism and more like a cultural difference, but it does seem to affect the overall atmosphere on TV.

Coach McCollum mentioned after the game that a couple guys (without naming names) weren't feeling the best, and limited their minutes a bit as a result. It also seemed to me Stirtz looked exhausted for most of the game. If he was under the weather, that stat line is even more impressive imo.

Combs was one of the ones that was sick.

I like Combs. Not as much as Howard, but he’ll be a solid multi-year contributor

When the offense stalls, especially when they have taken out Stirtz in limited patches, it's been Howard who can create something out of nothing.

They have a history of having the dumbest hot dog cannon schtick. They fired 3 hot dogs then the fat lady ran off the court while the crowd sat and waited for the remaining minutes of the tv timeout. They're hot dogs for Christ sake. You could fire out 100 and not spend $50. I laughed pretty good at that

Really? Howard is at least a threat on offense.

Did you gentlemen see the part where he posted “NOT AS MUCH AS HOWARD”? It was nearly one-third of his goddamn post.

The third hot dog hit one of the banners and didn't even make it into the crowd. Wtf
