Several times they could have buried Clemson, but just couldn't get it done. I wasn't really worried they were going to lose it though, except that two-possession stretch when Manyawu bricked 3 out of 4 free throws a little doubt crept in.

Anyway, great win.

Little Tate Sage is a good sparkplug.
hes going to be the kid that every other teams fan in the Big 10 is going to hate for years. He can jump higher than anyone who looks like him has any right.

Florida having multiple players out with the shits or something would certainly be helpful.

I didn’t like how passive Cam was on the pick and roll. He can be pretty effective if he attacks from the free throw line. I feel like we generally played and shot shitty but were in control the whole game. Maybe it was just the comfort of brants giving me a handy under the table idk.

Sage on the floor makes a big difference IMO. Without him the shooters are Stirtz and Koch, which is fine, but adding Sage feels so much better to me. That is what this team needs. Combs has stepped up huge lately, but he’s still more of a driver than a shooter. I think the only thing holding back Sage is defense, but that should improve since he’s athletic as hell.

That was an ugly game, but all that counts is the W. Stirtz was forcing it a bit and their most success was driving and letting Folgers get it on the block.

Missouri, playing now, beat Florida
Mizzou plays a 4 guard lineup so i thought maybe lack of size was the key to beating Florida, but then i noticed 2 of Mizzou’s guards are 6’10 and 6’9, and they have a 7’0 center. So…..

I can see Iowa being able to stop Florida’s transition stuff just by our general style. Scoring on them is not going to be good. Stopping them in the half court well I hope they aren’t shooting it well Sunday. Hawks by 40.

I swear they said one guy was 7’5” and another was at least 7’ as well. Could be the bourbon listening however.

Long term I definitely agree. Down the stretch he’s been really rough defensively and gets caught ball watching. I can get the stats later for anyone who cares but his on/off splits have been brutal defensively. He had the worst +/- several times down the stretch.

But again, whatever. I love him as a player, he’s just growing and learning. He’s never scared. Going to be a stud.

It’s a true talent that two of us can feel that comfort at the same time.

Stirtz is in the midst of by far his worst shooting stretch of the season. Last 6 games:

6-15
7-23
4-10
6-18
6-11
4-17

33-94 (35%). Also 15-52 (29%) from 3 during that stretch

Combs is shooting 51% and 36% from 3 for that same set of games

I agree but I think it was more a result of our lack of off ball movement. Certainly didn’t have the baseline cutters like normal when he gets that short roll. Have to watch some of it back I guess but we were just really stagnant and they alluded to Ben losing his mind about that.

The 3’s are going to come and go with him but he can be a bigger threat off the drive. He has the size and physicality, he settles for the floater too much but at the same time that was his shot last year and he’s had moments this year.

I like that floater.

The 7’5” Mizzou dude comes off the bench. He’s a stiff.

I hate the floater. Shoot a pull up jumper. The floater is just lazy basketball.
In general I agree. Some guys do have a knack for it though. Drake people said that was his shot last year. This year he’s had his moments with it but also leaves it short and flat a lot. 6’4 and not weak, I want him to keep gaining confidence to finish at the rim.

You could say the same about a pull up jumper. Who gives a shit if it goes in?

I agree he could take it a little harder to the rim though and do better things.

Bails out the defense the majority of the time.
The only time to shoot it is when little midgets like me are going to have the shot blocked if they pull up like normal.

That’s the thing. All things being equal I think on average a person is going to hit that shot more if it’s a pull up.

But like you said if it goes in who gives a shit. Like @HiawathaHawk said it’s his shot I guess.

Are you like a D1 basketball midget, or a real midget like @foxhawks?

We all agree... It looks like he's more comfortable with that shot, but for most people probably not. I'd like to see him more aggressive in general, so I like his floaters.

Win in the first round, great start for this coaching staff. Will be a challenge against Florida. Would be amazing to get to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999.
Forgot Iowa didn't make the tournament from 2007-2013.

Good to see contributions from Folgerierus. Soldi FT shooting down the stretch once they got Manyawu out of the game

The Clemson run when Iowa was up 14 started with him fake helping on a post up that Clemson kicked out to his guy for a wide open 3. You could see it coming. He either needs to bring a true double team or just stick to his guy. He just floated between and ended up not guarding anyone.

His free throw shooting is also a little strange. He has games where he makes every one without touching the rim then has games like yesterday where he barely hits the front rim. Freshman stuff.

If Iowa can keep the rebound margin somewhat even, they have a shot. That’s a tall task though.
