Thought Ben was smart to keep Folgers out a bunch this game. He looked like shit and forced a lot the first half when he was in there. Was basically the bad Folgers we’ve seen before. I’m guessing he’ll get criticized for that though with how well he had played in the other games.

Normally yes, but if it wasn't for him, Iowa literally wouldn't have gotten this far. He just needs to work on being more consistent. I think he will take a step forward.

I won’t criticize, but it was hard not to notice his absence when they were daring Howard to shoot.

I’m not blaming the refs because Iowa rebounded like ass, but wtf are they calling here? It was a 6 point game at this point and combined with Cam missing it from point blank this ended it.

They were retards, there's no need to protect them

This team definitely needs a legit rebounding/defensive presence at center. Is McCollum completely opposed to playing a Folgueris type at the four for stretches? Don't remember seeing him and Cam on the floor at the same time this year.

Howard was doing pretty good defending Wagler. Combs too for the most part. Not sure what the answer really was though. Iowa did a good job chasing Illinois off the 3 point line. They needed physicality to try and force their bigs away from the rim. Most of the defensive issues were just rebounding and back cuts.

The refs were gay, but both teams benefitted from their gayness.

Folgers and Cam played together on occasion.

Howard really struggles on the offensive end but his defense is damn near elite at times. He really needs to get shots up this summer. Pull an Aaron White and lock him in the gym.

Only teams that have beaten Illinois have run on them. We outscored them by hitting our threes for most of the game, but went cold and that was the end.

The answer was not giving up 16 offensive rebounds. It’s unfortunate but Illinois was able to keep it close in the first half with the rebounding then imposed their will in the second half. I am a stupid fuck just like @Wanderer , but I can’t imagine not wanting to play for Ben. We’ll get some guys in here and get it moving again.

if you are a D1 player, currently in the elite eight after scoring 3000 points in high school, I don’t think you’re ever gonna be able to shoot. That’s just who you are.

That hurt a bit more than I thought it would, but in a good way. They were very close to being able to pull that out. I would have tried to push the ball and get easy scores more in the 2nd half, got way too bogged down against a physically superior and tallest team in the NCAA.

I still think if Cam tips that ball in and they are down 4 with about 1:45 left could have gotten very interesting with a stop.

"Big" guys gave Iowa next to nothing today. Cam and Banks were pretty bad. Folgerias was unplayable. It was basically Stirtz, Koch, Sage and the two defensive guards battling it out.

Great first season, let's see what they can get in the portal and have some fun.

If someone could have jammed a corn dog down stan van gundys throat that would have been great. We had Harlan and Hummel, yet that fat ass tried to talk over them all game
We were down 5 with four minutes left and SVG is saying “Iowa needs to start shooting 3s!”

Well as a consolation, I have Illinois Arizona Duke and Michigan in my bracket. With Michigan beating Illinois for the title. So I kind of pre hedged without knowing it.

It happened multiple times in this tournament I believe. Several times throughout the year, not for large stretches.

Koch didn’t really come off the floor either and playing those 2 together would have forced one of those 3 (Koch) to guard the opposing teams 3. Alvaro also sees the floor well/is a great passer so you would rather have someone like Banks who cuts to the rim out there with him rather than a pick and roll undersized center that would be clogging up the lane.

As the official President of the Halo Sunshine Bois Club here is my official prediction.

Illinois is going to build a decent size lead early in the second half. Chat will be filled with messages like ‘it was a good run and the future looks bright’ But to get where you want to go you have to exercise the demons that haunt you. 39 years later that UNLV game lives rent free in the minds of Hawkeye fans. Stirtz, Koch, Alavaro, Banks, Sage, Combs and Ben McCollum don’t give 2 fucks about any of that. They are going to bring Iowa back the last 10 minutes and finish the job Tom Davis didn’t that year.

Iowa 75
Illinois 68

I’ll see you boys at the Sculpture Park.
