We could probably have one thread per season.

or maybe even per head coach.

Fuckin love our signature moves: the "jump stop in the lane and freeze for two seconds" and the "triple clutch layup attempt that gets stuffed"

WTF was that final shot? Why did they not try to get Stirtz the ball?

I have been watching Iowa basketball since 1983. I can't recall an NCAA tourney Iowa team that I dislike to watch more than this one.

I would have rather seen Iowa call a timeout immediately after the made FT rather than at half court. If they were only down two points, than sure...call the timeout at half court. But when you are down 3, all it does it allow the defense to set up around the 3 pt line. I was pleasantly surprised we even got the ball inbounded, until I saw the shot.

Top 25 Kenpom team this year, first year for McCollum. I don't necessarily disagree (outside the Iowa team that played Auburn a few years ago), but this response doesn't bode well for long term support, unless they are the type of team that just does well in NCAA tourneys.

Stirtz tends to also shit his pants in end of game situations, so Hausen isn't necessarily a worse choice to take the shot to tie.

The bigger issue is McCollum doesn't seem to have any clever plays in his kit for these moments. He'd benefit from studying Fran's in-bound sets.

One full regular season plus BTT into the McCollum era and I’d say he’s about at or just slightly below what I expected.
Next year I don’t expect to be a bubble team, more likely around .500.
Year 3 will be the true tell on him imo

McCollum does most things obviously better than Fran, but out of bounds plays are a clear weakness. Fran had some pretty good half court sets too.

There was a timeout after the FT. They were trying to foul immediately. When you get the timeout at half court, it’s tougher for them to foul without a chance at continuation, especially with how the rule has been applied this year.

They were still trying to foul on the catch, he went to foul Hausen at his hip and pulled back right as he was going up.

You hoped the bubble was possible this year but this is below what you expected?

Good first season, going to make the tourney, hooray to that.

They aren't fun to watch for giant stretches of the game, and all of those stretches are all by choice. There is no reason they have to run that ridiculous offense. It sucks. The pattern is awful especially to start games. Yet another game where they played the first 11 minutes and scored 13 points.

For essentially the 5th game in a row, they run that offense where the ball barely enters the 3 point line and they bleed the clock down passing up good shots until they have to chuck a terrible shot with the clock running out.

Then they get down double digits and suddenly are forced to play and magically they look damn good. Running the floor, attacking the basket, looking to score, taking open shots. They come roaring back and then fuck up the very end and lose by 3 or in overtime. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Ben's got to abandon that shit for a bunch of reasons. He's also got to figure out some inbounds and end of game situation plays.

Hopefully McCollum realized how good this team can be when hunting shots

We’re 95th percentile nationally in offense after timeouts.

What do you consider bubble? They’re in but probably one of what, the last 5-6 At larges. It’s not like they’re a 5 seed
They could've lost yesterday to a terrible team and were still in no danger whatsoever of missing the tournament, even after losing three straight games, one against a terrible team. That is not close to the bubble.

Just admit you are being typical Shawnee about expectations and how you are assessing it. There's no chance for any Iowa team to possibly exceed whatever you "thought" they were going to do.

They aren’t considered one of the last 8 teams in by anyone. Probably not the last 10.

That was one of my favorite Iowa teams since the early Dr Tom teams ,so of course they shit the bed vs a 14 seed.

I just think it's easier to get a 3 off from a full court setting.
I can’t believe anyone likes the 2023 team that lost to Auburn more than this group. And that’s the last team to make it.
I think the main thing is this team was hard to identify with since it was mostly the Drake team from last year. It never really felt like a Hawkeye team to me. They didn't really impress me this year. They benefited from a shitty college basketball season. The bubble teams are evident of that. Even wins like Ole Miss and Xavier turned out to be shit. They won two games out west but then got swept out east. They played well at Hilton and took care of UCLA and USC at home, but then lost at Minny and at home by 20 to Purdue. 14-3 at home, 3-8 on the road, 4-1 on neutral courts. Definitely not horrible, just missed opportunities. Close losses mean nothing to me.

I think Ben is a good coach. He did what he could considering he only retained Koch. He made defense a priority this season, which I liked to see. And I think the offense next season will be much better.

This has been one of my favorite teams to watch in recent years simply because I prefer to watch aggressive and physical defense.

Overall they’re just a little too skinny but they go hard.

If you need a team that gives you a chance against all but maybe 3 teams in the country, you want this team out there. But this team doesn't have anyone as good as Kris Murray, could really use a Fart, Sr., and didn't do anything as impressive as the comeback against MSU.

Ben has us in the tournament. Perhaps we are battered and bruised from the last 25 years but I’ll absolutely take that and call it a successful season. Will go in with the hope of winning a game. Maybe they get lucky and get a 10 in UCONNs POD!!! for an outside shot at a s16.

There were probably hundreds of posts over the years of the same people saying they couldn’t get behind Fran’s teams because they didn’t play defense and were soft. This team has the best defense nationally and in Big Ten games that Iowa has had in 13 years and outplayed their talent level.

No one should throw parades for this team but this stuff is just dumb.
