For Gary Dolphin's sake alone I hope the Hawks can land Achiuwa.

god's gift to division 2 maybe
He's getting recruited by St. Johns (who already has holy shit 9 commits for next year), Cincinnati, and Kentucky.

Edit - Okay, I just looked this up. St John's has 6 5 stars and 1 4 star committed already. Lavin appears to be working out so far.

So is Gift the middle name?

If not, there's some potential with a last name like Achiuwa.

I like the look of these guys. By the way, "God's Gift" is averaging 13 pts. and 13 boards a game at Erie CC in New York.

God's Gift Achiuwa (is that pronounced like Ak-Iowa?)

It is nice to see that we are making an effort to recruit some "athletes." :D

I can hear Gary interviewing Achiuwa after a game: 'So God, you really led the team out there today.'

can somebody tell us if these recruits are worth a shit or not?

Fran would have to get a JUCO again next year to make any noticable progress right?

Yeah, but he's not good enough for Iowa.
And as we all know, recruiting to Iowa is the same as recruiting to NYC to play in the Garden with like 9-10 open scholarships.

I would have been alright with Lavin but what he's doing right now isn't really something that's a surprise. He's playing with almost all seniors this year and they've improved a little from last year. He has playing time to sell to 8-9 guys. Not just like the "Hey you can come here and maybe beat this guy out to start next year". No they lose almost their whole rotation and he has a boatload of scholarships to give for guys to play in the Big East.

I'm sure he would have been a solid recruiter here but his track record is based on selling guys to play in LA and NYC. Plus I think he and his wife probably would have gotten bored here after a few years.

Based on Basabe, I'm going to give his eye for talent the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Here's finally a little video to prove that Aaron White is still alive and moving: http://strongsville.patch.com/articles/strongsville-boys-top-brunswick-69-53#video-4860855

Not much you can tell other than he's not a total stiff physically. As far as run/jump/quickness and height/length he's probably on the same level as Basabe. The last play where he's trying to draw the foul and just throws up a weird two-handed thing off the glass made me wince.

I know dunking on high school kids is a lot easier than doing it in the Big Ten, but it was good to see him throw down a few in traffic.

Actually, I don't think those are socks, pretty sure theyre the faggy leg sleeves, think of Brommer's arm sleeve, just on the legs.

These guys can't get here soon enough. Tubby-coached Minnesota is a bad matchup for a predominantly The Criminal recruited squad.

if we had ANYONE that could make open threes we would have been right in this game. minnesota is too big inside to expect a big effort from the post, so we knew we would have to make shots. they were there all night.

i stood right next to Oglebsy...he is a legit 6-5.

Yeah Oglesby will fill a void and get minutes next year. Not like we didn't already know it but yesterday reinforced how short we are on shooters.

I really like Oglesby's game offensively and think he'll have an impact. I'm a little worried about his defense early on though.

I hope you are right this time, because you said Gatens was a legit 6'5'' and he is more like a legit 6'3''.

i could understand how you think this if you watch him play basketball though LOL

I have stood right next to Gatens. At best, the guy is 6'4'' in his stocking feet.

I need to see Gatens next to Jon Miller to have an informed opinion.

I've been exactly 6'4" since I was 14. I have played golf with Gatens probably a dozen times in my life and have been looking up at him since he was 15. Dougie is wrong on this one.

Does he looks as slow in person as he does on TV?

No one knows if Iowa has offered yet, but it appears they have been watching Darius Smith, the former UCONN pg that went to a juco. His stats are not bad, not great but pretty solid.

Plus, if UCONN recruited the sumbitch he's sure as hell good enough for this Iowa team.

Gatens may be 6-5 but he plays like he's 6-0.
