Fran tied Dr. Tom for wins @ Iowa today. I was contemplating who I consider to have been the better coach at Iowa.

Pretty much the same in my mind. Davis achieved slightly more but inherited an elite roster and a fan base that filled the arena every night. Fran inherited the worst P5 roster in the country with a fan base that had either been pissed off or checked out for a decade. Both had clear strengths and frustrating weaknesses.

They've got a shot to get back in the mix but this next 8 games will be make or break. Back end of the schedule is much tougher.

Next 8 they have Minnesota, Maryland, OSU, Purdue at home and at Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana and PSU. If they go 5-3 they're sitting at 15-9, 7-6 on Valentine's day. Going to have to get to at least 18-13, 10-10 but likely one game better.

we have zero quad 1 wins right now, we are going to need a couple road upsets.

Right. As of now, Purdue, Wisconsin, Illinois at home would all qualify as would Michigan, Maryland, Illinois, MSU and Northwestern away. That Michigan home loss blows. That was a terrible game.

Seton Hall has come on strong. That might end up being a nice win.

My memory may be clouded but it always feels like Fran has more success when he shortens the rotation. Last night he essentially played 7 guys. Brauns, Bowen, and Dembele played some spot minutes. No Pryce.

I still think there will be games where Bowen is effective and Harding isn't and those minutes will flip. Pryce and Dembele just aren't ready yet. I expected more from Brauns this year but if he can come in for some spot minutes he's fine as long as he doesn't commit a foul a minute.

The shorter rotation is the way, Fran. Nebrantska took some truly horrible shots all night, hard to imagine that's the same team that beat Purdue.

Even dunked in traffic instead of avoiding all threats of contact.
