3. Dude is insanely sensitive- even compared to this past season's team. Some dope on Miller's site started a sour grapes thread about Dickerson being a better addition than Ulis would have been; obviously enough I disagreed, but not in an incendiary sort of way, Miller's site if strictly moderated. Dickerson then followed me on twitter, and proceeded to send me direct messages as to why I shouldn't compare him to Ulis, and that Ulis was only rated higher than him because Trey missed a season of AAU- or some shit.
That does not bode well at all.

He is really sensitive, but I think him getting on campus be a good thing for him. I would think that Fran is going to have an in season social media ban again, so getting him off of there for the 8 hours or so per day he spends using it will help.

Dickerson seems deeply concerned with what others think of him, and I'm hoping that doesn't make him a total mental case. Unlike a guy such as Fleming, who fits that bill too, Dickerson seems to need the affirmation to boost his ego whereas Fleming has plenty of ego and needs the affirmation to prevent a total collapse. Different ends of the spectrum, so to speak. Hopefully it just seems that way because they're young and immature and desperate for attention as kids are, and that they'll settle down once they're here like Doug noted his hope with Dickerson. Iowa wasn't exactly an elite team mentally last year, so it'd be nice not to have reloaded on thumb suckers.

I wouldn't worry about it once he gets here. There are countless others who seemed the same way and then once they get on campus it changes.

Fran should implement that social media ban as soon as practice starts. I wasn't a huge fan of it last year because it was done mid-year, but these guys would be better staying off it.

10 of the 13 non-conference games have been revealed.

The schedule features a balance of opponents. Iowa State (28-8, RPI 9) and North Carolina (24-10, RPI 19) qualified for the NCAA’s Sweet Sixteen and round of 32, respectively. Potential opponents Syracuse (28-6, RPI 14) and Texas (24-11, RPI 31) each won at least one NCAA tournament game, while California (21-14, RPI 68) advanced to the NIT quarterfinals. Northern Iowa finished 16-15 with an RPI of 134.

But the known home opponents — outside of Iowa State — aren’t quite as strong. North Florida (16-16, RPI 200) is the only squad to post a non-losing season. The others include Northern Illinois (15-17, RPI 201), Alcorn State (12-19, RPI 308), Maryland-Baltimore County (9-21, RPI 319) and Longwood (8-24, 341). Historically, Iowa is 6-0 against Northern Illinois, 1-0 against Maryland-Baltimore County and has not played Alcorn State, Longwood or North Florida.

I would rather they swap out the Alcorn State, Longwood and North Florida games and play a round-robin tourney with the Iowa Conference.

While i'm not surprised,it still needs to be said that so far the home non-conference schedule sucks.

Iowa only has 3 poor games out of 13 opponents so far, and one of them wasn't their choice. They have an outstanding non-conference schedule. Iowa State at home with North Carolina, Syracuse, Texas, California and Northern Iowa all on the road or at a neutral site is as more than enough.

Looking forward to seeing some highlights of Uhl tonight. I also look forward to Bovert getting pissed when people talk about how much bigger or stronger players look.

It would be more accurate to say that with one exception Iowa's home non-conference schedule consists entirely of poor games, and the only exception wasn't Iowa's choice. However, there are three games still TBD, and those games could have a big impact on what the home non-conference season offers to people who might spend money on tickets. If we end up with three more sub-150 teams, it will be an awful schedule for ticker buyers, and will again cost Iowa if they're under consideration for an NCAA bid next year.

Hopefully they're hard at work trying to find three opponents who can at least put up a fight.

Again, I get that you want almost every team in that magic 150-200 range, but so does every other BCS level program and all of those teams in that level know it and charge more.

LOL at the worry for the season ticket holders when talking about a team ranked #175 vs. #315. The majority won't know the difference and it will still be lower level no name schools that will get blown out by 20 instead of 30. Attendance wouldn't be affected in any meaningful way by scheduling #162 Elon instead of #311 Liberty, but you can damn sure know it will cost your program a lot more money and won't affect your RPI given your neutral site and away schedule.

The only thing that would make any sense or matter to fans is scheduling a home and home with a huge program, and that isn't likely to happen.

Well, 2 of the 3 TBD's are part of the 2K classic and Iowa has no say in who they are. And I'm willing to bet that neither one will be higher than 225 on the RPI scale.

Yea, not even close to what I saw tonight. Uhl is exactly what Fran wants at the 3. Long, skilled, athletic. With development he will have the body type and game for the NBA 3 spot.

Great minds think alike, doug! Dumb comparison by Stiles.
I don't care what level it is at, the highlights of Uhl show him doing thing Basabe couldn't dream of doing in an empty gym.

And in fairness to Basabe he was pretty crazy inside, although a black hole. If Uhl has Basabes hops that would also be good.

Sorry, no. He wasn't crazy inside at all, nothing more than a true garbage man who finally added an occasional 15 footer. Uhl has better hops than Basabe.

This isn't anywhere close to his best dunk, but he dunked it left footed, left handed on a Top 75 - 7'0'' player that visited this week.

GO and White playing the fatigue card tonight when asked about last season. How exactly does a June/July trip overseas still have an impact 9 months later in March when you are 18-22 years old? Fatigue is staying up all night with a sick kid and having to give a Powerpoint presentation via an online meeting to a bunch of assholes who don't give a shit at 8am the following morning. Love the Hawks but last years bball team has replaced the 2010 football team as the largest collection of pussies to ever put on the black and gold.

I don't think it is that far fetched. They got done playing in April of 2013 and White started a non-stop multiple continent basketball playing schedule in June.

The rest of the team went solid with no break from late July until mid-March. It isn't true that 18-22 year old players are the strongest and most resilient out there, it doesn't happen until players hit their mid-20's that they can play an extended schedule without fatigue. Factor in that they didn't have much time to really lift or build strength along with bad chemistry from McCabe and possibly Marble and you have a team that is worn out and sick of each other by mid-February.

I'd put the bad chemistry reasoning wayyyyyyyyyyy ahead of fatigue. I think playing the fatigue card is covering up the chemistry issues.

Also, the 13-14 Iowa Hawkeyes were the first college team to play basketball in 9 straight months.

I'm sure you think they were the first to collapse as well.

The truth is it was a bit of everything. Fatigue, over familiarity, bad chemistry, poor coaching, questionable leadership, mental midgets, tough schedule and some really shit luck.

I still think if that fucking beam doesn't fall at Indiana, then Iowa doesn't collapse. They beat up on the extremely wounded and short handed Hoosiers and then ride high to a win over Wisconsin at home.

I still am in disbelief how shit their luck/toughness/performance was in so many games the last 2 years. It would be one thing if they simply quit, but they were the definition snake bitten. So many opportunities to pull out close games and they collapsed time after time.

They were in the game with a chance to win until the last minute and often the last second in 12 out of 13 of their losses. How do you have 13 losses and the worst one was by 10 points to Michigan State on the road and the next worse was 8 points to Michigan on the road?

Yeah I think the fatigue was more mental than anything. And from the physical aspect, they weren't able to have an offseason of strength and conditioning like you pointed out. From playing til Final Four weekend to starting offseason workouts with the coaches earlier for the first time ever, the overseas trip, White playing on the USA team and then fall practice starting weeks earlier than normal. They went from October 2012-March 2014 with more structured work and a shorter break than probably any Iowa team ever and as much as any team in the country.

It was definitely like tossing tails 13 times in a row. Fuck, I want to forget about that. We need to change the subject.

I think fatigue for White may be a legit excuse since he was all over the place. Fatigue for any of the other guys is pure bullshit. It's not like they busted their asses on the overseas trip. The extra practices and games are universally seen as a benefit (hence limiting them to once every four years), so don't tell me an extra ~10 practices and ~5 games is gonna wear them out in the goddamn offseason.

The biggest problem was having no go-to guy in the clutch. Sure, some may have been bad luck or whatever, but a trend like the last couple years doesn't happen with a legit go-to guy on the floor.

Do you have anything to back that up? Because it just doesn't work like that a lot of the time. It's just stuff that gets built after the fact.

One thing that keeps jumping out to me from Uhl's highlights is how quick he is with the ball in his hands. I don't think Iowa has ever had a player that size who can advance the ball or get to the rim that fast.

I'm just going on what I've watched over the last couple years. If you want a stat, the one about us not converting a go ahead shot at the end of the game over the last 12 billion chances (can't remember the specifics, but you know what I mean) is pretty telling. Fran drew up plays for several different players at the end of the games last year and no one converted. Many were good looks, but still nothing. A go-to guy isn't going to make it every time, but he'll at least want the ball and succeed every once in awhile. Plus when other teams know who you're going to, that gives you the chance to use it to your advantage and use them as a decoy from time to time.

Seems like Dev could have been that guy, but when Fran would let him do his thing, he generally wasn't getting off a great shot. He finally got the one at the end of regulation against Tennessee, but a couple of those during the regular season would have been huge.

I don't think this is something that was built after the fact either. If the Hawks were down 1 with the ball and 30 seconds left, who did you want getting the ball? There was no obvious answer last year. My answer would have been Dev, but I'd realize he was probably going to try and get fancy one-on-one and I'd just hope he made whatever shot he threw up.

Hopefully that's something that will be different this year. I don't care who does it (maybe Jok or Uthoff??), but if somebody can convert a couple key buckets, it will be big for their confidence and the team's confidence.

A stat tard like yourself should be saying the opposite at this point. MikeyBPredict should know that eventually the luck evens out and it is at that point where it pretty much has to.

I'm all in on Uhl as well, and not because of that dunk last night. From watching his highlights the past year and with the system Fran runs, he is going to be the best recruit he has gotten so far.

The other teams being mentally tougher than Iowa is not luck and does not even out. 3 or 4 close losses, yeah you could say it was the bounce of the ball here or there. 13 over two years? That is not bad luck.
