University of Iowa senior guard Josh Oglesby, 22, was arrested by campus police in Iowa City early Saturday on a charge of public intoxication, a spokesperson from the university’s Department of Public Safety confirmed Saturday afternoon.

The university’s athletics department released a statement from Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery shortly after 3:20 p.m. on Saturday.

“I was made aware of the incident involving Josh this morning. I will collect all the facts when I return to Iowa City,” McCaffery said in the release. “Once fully informed of the situation, I will visit with Josh and we will operate in accordance with the rules and regulations of our student-athlete Code of Conduct.”

Saturday’s incident marks the third run-in with the law this offseason for a member of the Iowa basketball team. Sophomore guard Peter Jok, who attended high school at West Des Moines Valley, was arrested in April for an OWI and again in July for driving with a revoked license.

Jok has since been indefinitely suspended.

The 6-foot-5, 208-pound Oglesby, a Cedar Rapids Washington product, averaged 6.6 points in 21 games played last season as a junior.

That schedule is front loaded as mother fucker. Ohio State (twice), Michigan State, Wisconsin (twice), at Minnesota, at Purdue, at Michigan all in the first 9 games. I will be impressed if they can get out of that 4-5.

Add in games before that of Texas, Syracuse or Cal, North Carolina, Iowa State and UNI. This team might be improved and still have 8 losses half way through the Big Ten season.

That is a weird schedule. They were on their 3rd game last year by Nov. 14th and this year will be playing their first game. Not a whole lot of warm up before traveling to New York City and getting fed to the biggest team in College Basketball.

I think I might actually enjoy this years team a lot more than last year, mostly because I am not going to have as many EXPECTATIONS!!!! given that schedule. Hoping that this year the shots fall and luck swings their way, because after the last 2 seasons it can't get much more gut wrenching.

With that said, I think this is going to be the year that determines what sort of future the program has for the next decade. If they can somehow pull out a great year and make a run into the tournament, it will be the huge boost that gets Iowa over the top in recruiting and national exposure. If they sort of do well and either scrape into the tournament and lose a game or end up in the NIT, then I think Iowa is pretty much going to be a program that draws mediocre recruits and perhaps makes the tournament every few years. Fran will be here long enough to coach his kids and then retire.

Iowa needs to do well and then get someone like KJ Santos to commit along with a highly rated center in 2016.

It would certainly help the Hawk's chances at the NCAA if the ass end of the non-conference schedule wasn't filled with some of the worst opponents imaginable.

This is a pretty good assessment. I think this year for sure and possibly next year they are still a 20 win level team. The best chance to elevate the recruiting comes in getting KJ Santos. Top 50 player and they are going to have a very good shot given they were one of the first to identify him, his best friend is Brandon Hutton and he has been very positive towards Iowa and Fran. Then you hope that Connor McCaffery keeps developing and ends up staying a Top 25 player. They will have some influence in their classes to possibly attract more top level talent if Iowa is winning enough games.

If they can pull that off and hope guys like Dominique Uhl develop like Aaron White did, then that could finally be the over the top they need to have sustained upper level success. Lots of things have to go right, but having a surprise season this year could really help.

yes, and while the 2013 and 2014 classes were disappointing, the 2015 class is looking much better. fran got 3 guys that he offered early. and as others have said in the recruiting threads, if he manages to fill the last 2 spots w/ players like og/sehic/morrow, then it's hard to see how anyone could be disappointed with that for a 2015 class. big if's of course, but the point being that it's not all about waiting for the 16 and 17 classes to upgrade the talent and athleticism, it's already starting w/ the 15 class

I think the 2015 class will be a solid group of role players, but they need a stud to either develop out of the current players (Jok, Uhl) as a go to player or pick someone up in 2016.

If we can get Sehic and 1 of Anunoby or Morrow, it will be huge. Certainly becomes their best class yet. I personally think Sehic is the most important recruit left, but Morrow is the most faptastic.

I totally support Fran going very light or forgoing suspensions for Jok and Oglesby so they are ready for the 2 games out in NYC. I can't imagine Gesell/Dickerson/Clemmons combo filling the necessary scoring void needed at the SG position. I would guess ~16 PPG would be the minimum Jok/Ogs combo is going to put up. They averaged 11 PPG last year with Ogs missing most of the cupcakes part of the schedule and Jok only getting 9 min/game when he did play.

I would be very surprised if they get anything other than a suspension for the exhibition game or nothing at all. I'm guessing the way Fran did the indefinitely suspended thing for Jok and press released that he is rejoining the team is going to end up being his suspension. Oglesby will get nothing.
