The beauty of Nate. If I remember correctly, on Iowa’s next series, Nate threw an atrocious INT that Minnesota turned into a TD. Rather than being up 21-0, it went to a 14-7 game pretty quickly.
Stanley had a lot of warts but he made up for it in a lot of ways. The problem with Spencer is he has a lot of warts but does not offer anything productive, at least not with any level of consistency. He is a net negative consistently.

The problem is KF thinks they can win the majority of their games because of the defense and ST.

I wonder if the defense was just average and they were 1-4 right now, if they might pull the plug on SP and build for the future.

Stanley was a decent quarterback but he is really benefiting from having Petras follow him.

Nate threw for 4 TD's in that game.

Petras has thrown for 3 TD's in the last 13 games.

A garbage time end of the game TD against Michigan.

Near overthrow against Nevada, one of the worst teams in college football.

Sideways screen pass to LaPorta against Kentucky.

That's it. 3 TD's in 13 games.

Has Petras ever thrown for more than 2 TDs in a game? I’m not going to dmyofr
Yes. Three games in a row last year. Colorado State (2), Maryland (3) and Penn State (2).

He followed that up with a 17-31 and 4 INT performance against Purdue, which if you trace it back was the game where he was irrevocably broken.

It's maddening looking at his game log from last year, because there was a 4 game stretch where he was EXACTLY the QB you needed him to be and that would be more than acceptable with this kind of defense. He was making real progress, and then the Purdue game just fucking broke him for good.

How can you have these 4 games and then the 13 games after you throw 3 TD's and are the worst QB in college football?

2 is not more than 2 :icon_biggrin:. The correct answer is twice @ Maryland 2021 and @ Illinois 2020.

If Spencer had put up anything close to these numbers this year, Iowa is rolling at 5-0 and ranked in the Top 10.

8-2 TD/INT, averaging about 230 ypg, 60%+ completion percentage.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.

Watching that second play makes me want to kill myself.
It is indeed striking when you see that and think about what we've been watching with Petras.

No way that Petras avoids that rusher. No way that Petras, even if he could avoid that rusher, could make that throw.

Kirk believes, correctly, that more games are lost than are won. He believes, incorrectly, that using a completely incompetent offense that can't make big plays, can't convert third downs, and can't maintain multiple first down drives, isn't losing games.

Spencer was elite in April tho

I fucking hate this guy:

“He’s the best he’s looked. He’s worked hard on his body, worked hard on his body fat, and he’s moving as quickly as he’s ever moved. Again, not that he’s ever going to be a dual-threat quarterback, but he’s going to have to get away from trouble, move quickly, get his feet set, and make a throw. He’s worked on that. I think he’s lost a good seven or eight pounds. Mechanically, he’s worked on all of the stuff we did last year. He’s made some strides. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much we talk about this stuff, he has to play better on Saturdays. He knows that. At the end of the day, he’s going to be judged on how many games they won, his completion percentage, and his touchdown passes. That is the reality of playing quarterback.

He’s figured out a way to get more balance on top of his drop with his footwork and more consistency with his throwing sequence. That just takes time.
”

His pear shaped physique still looks like shit and he is among the very worst in college football at all of those things.
