Gaping hole, but definitely not the 1 DTs if Louie Stec is in there.
Judging run game offense or defense when they’re practicing in shells is a foolhardy plan.

Was there just a bad lull in offensive line recruiting as Polasek left or what?

Think it was more couple guys going to NFL early and a few others leaving due to injury. Just a weird window of bad timing.

For the one billionth time, if you are running a college football offense in the year 2022 and you aren't taking at least 10 shots per game down the field, you are a certified fucking moron. The outcome is going to be A) a long completion explosive play or B) a long incompletion that loosens up the defense from putting 8-9 in the box and makes it easier to run or C) a pass interference because college DB's and refs are stupid or d) at worst a long interception that acts as a 40-50 yard punt.

Iowa's running game has sucked because the stupid Offensive Coordinator has refused to help it out.
I don’t know if there are any teams that average ten 20+ yard attempts per game.

nope. Max Jones in the ridiculously explosive 2021 Alabama offense finished the year on throws over 20 yards going 29 for 50 averaging 25.6 yards per attempt and a crazy 44.1 yards per completion over the course of 15 games. So that offense averaged 3.33 attempts over 20 yards per game.

But sure…Kirk Fetrntz’s Iowa team should push it down field 3 times more often per game. Seems reasonable.

Looks like in 2020 there were a handful of teams in the nation that averaged 5+ per game with two at 6+.

A little surprised they haven’t considered moving someone like AJ Lawson over to receiver since he’s buried on the defensive depth chart.

This one is the most troubling plays. He knows he isn't going to get hit in practice, but got heavy blitzed from the right side and it still made him panic and throw the ball early and way off target.
Petras did the same thing in the April Spring Game, Moss blitzed from the corner and left the WR open and Petras just panicked and threw it well in front of the WR. Just cannot handle pressure

'17- Wirfs gone after 3, Kallenberger quit after 4 years instead of starting last fall. Kirkpatrick was a bust.
'18- Plumb not great, Ince hurt a lot, Jenkins left after a year or two.
'19- Miller hurt, now at Nebrantska. Endres hasn't panned out. Britt hasn't been unhurt since junior year of high school. Walk-on DeJong started pretty well in '21, then played hurt.

I was pretty excited about the 2019 OL class but that one has been quite the bust as you mentioned.

Ezra Miller, Tyler Endres, Noah Fenske, and Justin Britt. I really thought that was going to be a 3 starter class. Whoops.

Miller just wasn’t cut out for Iowa City. Small town guy with separation anxiety. Fenske was a huge reach. Britt just isn’t mean enough.

Fenske is slated to start at Colorado at C FWIW. He left because he was behind our current interior linemen.

Miller is not in the two deeps at Nebrantska (why would he fare better in Lincoln than IC incidentally? )

Not sure this belongs in this thread, but what the hell. You think this guy would learn to shut up and maybe start backing off the hype a bit.

He's really got nothing to lose at this point.

Colorado is in shambles. Fenske was a reach and wouldn't have started at Iowa. Miller wasn't mentally tough enough. He was underwhelming in high school despite his showings at all the all star camps. Miller basically lived up to what everyone who watched him play said about him.

OL recruiting has picked up now. Sure they're young but the talent they're bringing in shouldn't allow a Plumb/dejong level of tackles on the field in the next 3-4 years
