At 16 validation from my parents was about the last think in the world I gave a fuck about. That actually became a lot more important to me when I entered the professional world. I played sports for the same reason I learned how to play guitar with a passing level of functionality and it wasn’t to make the old man proud.

Also my parents at my sporting events outside of dropping me off would have been another level of bullshit I didn’t want or need, mainly because of the potential jokes about the upper classman wanting to see my moms tits and stuff like that that guys with “more involved” parents had to deal with.

Thank god I had folks that knew how to “read the room”.
