Lol Gus.Throwing Brian to the “wolves” tomorrow is a somewhat interesting move for Kirk. Hard to speculate as to motives, but could be a “this is your baby; own it” type move. Genuinely want to hear what he has to say. I think the odds of a full blown “circle the wagons and stay the course” message are about 90%, but hoping for a slip up or moment of candor.
yes. Many.you always hear former players praise Phil Parker. Has any former player ever talked about Brian like that?
born on 3rd, thinks he hit a triple.
Yeah Ive never seen Iowa football this active in social media trying to calm everyone down.
Counterpoint - with one change on offense, I think this could be a pretty damn good year given the defense. The entire state of the offense is just sort of depressing. There’s no one thing you fix and just make it magically all better. Replace Petras and you still have and OLine that has been pretty bad and struggles to run the ball. Fix the line and you still have the worst QB in all of college football throwing to “the Ankeny High School homecoming court.” Throw some talent out there at WR and the shit QB can’t get anyone the ball. It’s all just one big ball of shit. Even replacing Brian doesn’t necessarily mean this improved. There’s still a non-zero chance that Kirk is sort of dictating to him what he’s to do. Shit is depressing AF
Again, a “hard knocks” of this team would be really interesting. It’s easy to forget the beginning of the 2019 season where they had Stanley out of the gun a ton with 3 WR and at other times 2 RB sets dealing until the ISU game. Not to mention when Brian was the run game coordinator in 2016 when they were mixing up blocking concepts a lot and had 2x 1000 yard rushers with an Oline that was essentially 5 guards and no WRs and a QB whose intestines were dropping into his nutsack every other series due to injuries. The entire state of the offense is just sort of depressing. Yep. I almost forgot, too, how creative the offense got for a while there back in 2018 and 2019. For some reason, they went back to vanilla offense with GDGD style passing attack. Yet they claim they have 2 QBs they love. Something doesn't add up.Again, a “hard knocks” of this team would be really interesting. Brian seems to be a dumbfuck but we don’t know for sure how much of this is really on him.
he really shouldn’t be in the position he’s in but it’s worth thinking about IMO.

Yep. Half those guys are our WRs.
Shitty OL can be masked with a better offensive scheme and QB. Loads of teams have average to below average lines and they can move the ballIt’s literally everything with the offense. Everything.
QB sucks
OL worst in 15 years
WRs non existent
TEs decent but overrated
RBs who knows
OC game plans everything within 10yd LOS
It cannot be fixed this season.
The lack of a line will show up against UW and NW and UM, but otherwise, yeah.Shitty OL can be masked with a better offensive scheme and QB. Loads of teams have average to below average lines and they can move the ball
I go back to the 2017 OSU beat down. Clearly BriDAWG’s best game, over 400yds total offense, balanced yardage. But then I look at the units you’ve identified above and they all suck in comparison. So I guess it all comes back to the old saying, “It’s not the X’s and O’s, but the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.”It’s literally everything with the offense. Everything.

That 2017 offense had 2 NFL WR's, the current best RT in the NFL, a 1st rd Center, 2 first round NFL TE's and a shifty faggot at RB. Brian still managed to fuck up multiple games that year with his faggotry.I go back to the 2017 OSU beat down. Clearly BriDAWG’s best game, over 400yds total offense, balanced yardage. The problem is recruiting and retention. The Hawkeyes have been bitten a little bit by their own success, losing some early draftees to the NFL. They’ve also had some attrition, from mental health and injuries. And then you have the transfers.
So if we can agree on the problem, those to blame are the coaches (head and assistant) and coordinators (offensive and recruiting) responsible for recruiting the offensive side of the ball. Traditional recruiting has been mediocre to poor in these units recently. More glaring though, I believe they have really dropped the ball with respect to the portal. They are viewing it as transfers with limited time and bringing in mercenaries to take playing time from their current players. They need to think of it as a second recruiting class every season, or picking up free agents in the NFL. It needs to be utilized, especially when retention is a problem for one reason or another.
Hopefully the staff can realize it sooner rather than later. Otherwise they will die as dinosaurs. They need to evolve to the new reality. I’m sure NIL will continue to play an ever larger role in recruiting and retention as well.
Like the very next week when we put up 66 yards and had 4 turnovers against Wisconsin. That 2017 offense had 2 NFL WR's, the current best RT in the NFL, a 1st rd Center, 2 first round NFL TE's and a shifty faggot at RB. Brian still managed to fuck up multiple games that year with his faggotry.

He shouldn’t have been surprised.
That room is emptyI’ve heard rumblings that the WR room (such as it is/was) doesn’t love Brian. Not clear that any room does.
Nobody believes thatWent from Spencer is our starter to hedging very fast.
The Ferentz's have made me retarded.
It’s concerning they seem to legitimately not get that his performance is never a reflection of “how good he looks in practice”.His performance was a reflection of him sucking, which we've seen for 3 straight years, you don't need any further data points to make that call.
And he's been here a loooong time. The Ferentz's have made me retarded.
Anyone that mentions how Spencer looks in practice should immediately be punched I. The fucking face. With 20+ starts in live action vs real football teams you would have to be an abjectly stupid motherfucker to weight anything he does in practice when considering if he’s capable of doing his job on the field. His performance was a reflection of him sucking, which we've seen for 3 straight years, you don't need any further data points to make that call.
"When his feet were set and he was delivering the ball the way that he should, there weren't any issues. When the fundamentals weren't quite there, there were issues."Video
