The Penn State game was the greatest Kinnick experience I’ve ever had. I was SO excited about Iowa forcing teams to get in the mud with them and just squeezing, squeezing, squeezing. Pinning teams back, defense lighting people up. I probably should have let Brian know that the offense not being a complete fucking dumpster fire was an important component of that. Note I didn’t say the offense needed to be good, it doesn’t.
Sounds like you were part of the problem too @Alan Lomax

Shame. Shame. Shame.

There’s been this ongoing argument in our friend group about the offense for a couple years. Last year especially, the most frequent rebuttal was always “they’re winning, how can you be mad?”

THAT is why. That’s fucking why

Yep, I was wrong. I didn’t think Brian was SO bad at his job, and I let hope take me to believing Spencer could be better.

The offense has been moribund for over a decade.
This is of course not true. The Iowa offense under Kirk has never been particularly good, but we have literally never seen ineptitude like this. You have to go back to the James Vandenberg 2012 year to get anything even close. The Spencer Petras years are uniquely bad, and unless something drastically changes this year it's going to be historically bad.

This very unique blend of shit smelling potpourri is a slow motion train wreck that most Iowa fans have seen coming. Personnel decisions have been suspect for a long time. You then added a helping of a dipshit Meathead offensive coordinator to the mix. Threw in a dash of recruiting hits at the skill positions. And capped it all off with a historically awful QB.

Kirk loves it too. Just loves the smell of his own shit

Charlie Jones is proof that the primary issue is not the level of talent at wide receiver.

It is indeed an issue, but it is not THE ISSUE.
it’s almost like bad offensive football teams consistently have one major issue.

Take Monte Pottebaum off the fucking field. He’s been absolutely terrible all season. He’s touched the ball like 3 times and fumbled it twice.
this is actually my biggest problem with Brian. What are you trying to prove by getting a fullback involved?

It’s crazy to think that less than a year ago we beat Penn State in an amazing home atmosphere, and Brian interviewed for the HC job at UConn the week after…

Holy shit how dumb can they be to not figure this out? Barta should be telling every single fucking donor to give all their money to the NIL and have that money go to the players. All of the seat license fees should be funneled towards the NIL. Every dumb donation to name the head coaching position something stupid. Every single fucking penny.

Iowa and the rest of the Big Ten are about to get $100m per year without a dime of it coming from ticket sales, donations or anything else.

Are they that fucking dumb?
they should just get Biden to forgive all the money they’ve borrowed!

I still think Brian could be a good head coach. Totally different skill set and all that. Coordinator is not his jam.

I still think the early 2019 season offense is probably a lot closer to what he would really like to run. For whatever reason that’s not happening, the program has no transparency so he’s going to get the blame. Tough shit I guess.

Unfortunately for him the 2020 racial relations fallout and the “performance” of the offense the last 2 years has either eliminated the possibility of him getting a HC gig or at a minimum set him back years.

Committed recruits don’t mean shit, but as far as Hayden era comparisons go, the cupboard would be significantly less bare now than in the late 90s.
Idk, the transfer portal would get a lot of our good remaining players and empty it out real quick.

That was an oops. I started that while I was fucked up last night and didn’t finish. Here we go:

a very good friend of mine’s neighbor is a self proclaimed “big BF fan” and said that the OC job at New England was all but his until the racial allegations. That job is still vacant. Rumor is there were some moves by attorneys and that if that stuff gets cleared up it’s BFs job next season. Now, I don’t believe any of this and neither does my buddy. The idiot fucking neighbor believes it is the gospel. We had a good laugh last night when he told me over the phone. It was a “You’re gonna love this shit” sort of call. IF that were true, and it’s a giant fucking if, this showing has to take that opportunity away now, right? No way they give this dude a job.
So the neighbor is a giant ButtFuck fan, which explains many things. Fans like him are why we can't have nice things.

I'm assuming that's a rhetorical question, because we are talking about athletic department admin here.

Unfortunately, the reality is that Kirk was allowed to set up a fantasy dream scenario life for himself and his family that is going to be very hard to change.

He set this up where he gets paid a huge salary, he can hire his son to be the OC and make nearly $1m, his son in law is the head of recruiting, and he was going to be able to have the grandkids close and retire some day and had the job to Brian and watch from a luxury box like a proud Emperor watching his kingdom.

The new reality is that Brian is DOA at Iowa. The fans universally have grown to hate him. He's either going to have to demote or allow Barta to fire his son or watch him take his family and the grandkids back to New England. He's not going to be able to see Brian and the family every day at work anymore.

I imagine this is what is driving the stubbornness. He's trying to either prove themselves correct or think he is protecting Brian when he is in fact destroying their reputations.
I want to see one of those comical clips from Downfall with Hitler ranting away with KF post-game quotes. Because I think he has actually gone full on "Après moi, le déluge".

Just looking at the football team, I feel like it's closer to 1978 than 1998.

The '78 team had a lot of good defensive players on the roster and a good amount of pretty fair talent in the OL. They were bereft of offensive skill players, aside from a guy like Mosley, who just needed a contemporary offense and some coaching. There were some useful journeymen like Brad Reid, Jim Swift, Phil Blatcher and Jeff Brown who were capable of contributing in a better offense with serviceable quarterbacking. Hayden didn't get a good quarterback right away, but found some guys who could at least not be the cause of losing.

In '98, the recruiting had fallen off rapidly, with the defensive talent at the lowest ebb of Hayden's tenure and quarterback and offensive line in similar straits. There was some good skill talent in Betts, Kasper and Hill, albeit not enough of it. That roster needed a major rebuild. The current roster just needs some retooling and the offensive system some updating. (This assumes guys like Johnson, Bruce and Bostick stay and thrive and the dark cloud of Spence finally dissapates.)

Kirk’s son, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, has some things to clean up.

Yeah, I don't know why public facebook posts don't work here for me most of the time. I must be doing it wrong.

My biggest fear is that the athletic department is banking on the windfall of tv money to consistently raise the program up. The problem with that line of thought is that everyone in our conference will have similar resources. We could be in for some serious hard times.
