I think LeVar Woods is the next HC but I’d be happy to see Jerry Montgomery back at Iowa in some form or another. Phil won’t be coaching forever. Would love to keep Bell on staff long-term too.

Again, everyone should really watch and see how this actually plays out. Except for seasons with insane injury, Kirk has never had a fully tanked season. This year feels like it could be headed towards a 6-6 or 7-5 type year. Iowa is somewhat due for one of those.

With that said, and can't believe I am saying this, but the defense is so damn good that if the offense manages even mediocrity they are going to win a lot of games.

There isn't a game on Iowa's schedule that is unwinnable outside of Ohio State on the road.

I'm still on the 7-5 train, but also wouldn't shock me to see them pull 9 wins out of their ass.
Don't do this to yourself

I would prefer the next head coach not be from Iowa, have played at iowa, or have coached at iowa.

interesting take. Why?
Because I want to know that the University of Iowa is out there searching for the best candidates and not limiting the pool to insiders. I’d like to see some ideas brought in from other places. And I don’t want anyone remotely acquainted with our offense to have the reigns of the entire program.

I'm pretty on record with how I feel about the offense, how it disgusts me, and how I want every coach associated with the offense to be doing something else than they are currently doing right now. However, I also think the skill set between coaching offensive positions, or coordinating an offense, are quite a bit different from being the head coach of a program.

What I really want is for the University of Iowa football team to be the best version of itself. I want them to have a balanced pro style offense that is efficient and around the top 75ish in terms of total offense and scoring offense, with awesome defense and special teams. That's all, and I don't think it is too far out of reach.

Hire the smartest coach who will take the job. Don’t hire the paint by numbers search firm coach, and don’t restrict yourself to internal promotions.

I honestly think its such an incredibly low bar given what Iowa has in place right now. Hence the incredible frustration with Kirk

I mean I suppose it's also how you get Nick Saban.
I didn't say that I wanted them to not consider taking someone from the outside, but Kamala's take on that it can't/shouldn't/doesn't want anyone with Iowa ties is epic stupidity. Especially when Iowa has a ton of good coaches with ties to the program.

Think about how fucking stupid that would be. You only think about going completely outside the program if the program is a hunk of shit like Iowa was in the late 70's or Alabama was (relatively) in the mid-2000's.

This is where too many people have lost their mind. The offense and QB suck the last few years, but the program has an incredible defense and feeds players into the NFL. You want to disassociate yourself from that to take someone with no Iowa ties? Really?

No, we don't need that.
It's amazing how a poorly formed offense with a bad quarterback has drawn every retard out from under their bridge to give a take.

There are significant risks involved with giving the HC job to an offensive coach that isn't a true visionary and we see those risks directly in KF. Long term commitment to a very specific style of offense is excruciating when it stops working and the HC believes in it too much to change.

A defensive coach or a special teams coach isn't so attached to specific schemes and they can be more reasonable in situations like Iowa currently finds themselves in. I would trust Phil or Levar 100x over KF on hiring a new OC for Iowa right now just because they aren't married to bad ideas.

I don't think you can justify blowing up the system Phil has in place right now for a completely new start, if you have to have an interim period to keep him around so be it, we'll never be as elite on a side of the ball.
