I’m wearing this to the homecoming game

View attachment 40563
the danger of that plan —- and I admit it’s very unlikely, but it is possible —- is that Petras and the OL finally bust out against NW and he goes like 16 for 20 with 300 yards.

so I’d definitely bring a hok sweatshirt to wear over it, if needed. Plus it could be damn cold for a T-shirt by then, unless you’re edging

No one here has been more negative and in an annoying state of apathy than the People's Champion, yet looking around the Big Ten West every single team kinda sucks.

The opportunity to get blown out again in the Big Ten Championship is there for the taking

Considering in all his starts he’s broken that tricky 225 yard barrier twice.

It's kind of interesting, Stanzi was the prototypical 6'4 specimen and Jake was the undersized 'mobile' qb.

The only way it makes sense to keep trotting Spencer out there is if they know he's coming back next year.
now see there’s your problem. Muleheadedness is marked by a near-total lack of analytical thinking.
I still cling to Dolph’s pre-season comment that Petras has said this will be his last year.

Is JC the only Qb to get benched in season in the KF era that was not injury related?

Post 2002, JC and Ruddock.

Prior to that, I think they had a few seasons where they were looking for a starter. Mullen/McCann and maybe someone else. Can't remember.

Iowa total offense:

KEN O'KEEFE YEARS
2002: 424.5 YPG, #13 of 117 total schools (11 wins, Banks QB)
2003: 334.1 YPG, 92 of 117 (10 wins, Tate QB)
2004: 312.7 YPG, 104 of 120 (10 wins, Tate QB)
2005: 432.4 YPG, 22 of 119 (7 wins, Tate QB)
2006: 383.3 YPG, 27 of 119 (6 wins, Tate QB)
2007: 316.3 YPG, 109 of 119 (6 wins, Christensen QB)
2008: 370.4 YPG, 53 of 119 (9 wins, Christensen/Stanzi QB)
2009: 336.3 YPG, 89 of 120 (11 wins, Stanzi QB)
2010: 382.9 YPG, 57 of 120 (8 wins, Stanzi QB)
2011: 372,5 YPG, 76 of 120 (7 wins, Vandenberg QB)

GREG DAVIS YEARS
2012: 310.4 YPG, 117 of 124 (4 wins, Vandenberg QB)
2013: 377.0 YPG, 84 of 125 (8 wins, Rudock QB)
2014: 400.1 YPG, 66 of 128 (7 wins, Rudock QB)
2015: 386.1 YPG, 72 of 128 (12 wins, Beathard QB)
2016: 325.0 YPG, 121 of 128 (8 wins, Beathard QB)

Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz YEARS
2017: 329.1 YPG, 117 of 130 (8 wins, Stanley QB)
2018: 375.0 YPG, 92 of 130 (9 wins, Stanley QB)
2019: 366.5 YPG, 99 of 130 (10 wins, Stanley QB)
2020: 368.6 YPG, 88 of 128 (6 wins - COVID, Petras QB)
2021: 303.9 YPG, 121 of 130 (10 wins, Petras QB)
2022: 242.2 YPG, 130 of 131 (incomplete, Petras QB)

Conclusions:

- KOK >>> GDGD >>> BF
- While we fondly remember the offense under Stanley, it was mediocre even then.
- Phil Parker is a genius. Iowa has won a lot of football games with crappy offense and his defense.
- The two worst offensive seasons of the past 20 years will both be Brian/Spencer specials.

I would have created some sort of graphs out of that data, but it would have pissed me off even more to see it in a picture.

Sad thing is that Ferentz and Barta see those numbers and only look at win totals and think to themselves “that’s pretty good”. What they DONT say to themselves is “imagine those numbers with an offense in the top 50%”, which when you think of it would put the Hawkeyes into near blue-blood range over the last decade.

instead, we are what that Corn Nation lunatic says we are…. Accepting of mediocrity when real success is just a nepotism away

For some reason, I remember Stanzi's offenses being better than Tate's. The numbers surprised me.

I'd take a Clinton Solomon right about now.

What about stats that Ferentz's claim to care about? Like time of possession, I would assume yards per play and 3rd down conversions would be stats that the Ferentz's care the most about given the want to be balanced, efficient, and control the ball. I'm sure those stats would tell a completely different story that justifies Brian's position on this staff.

I didn't think we could see a more robotic dipshit than Stanley. He certainly had his moments, yet he missed so many deep balls. Mental mistakes were a big part of his game and I wasn't real sad to see a new QB, even though he was good enough to be drafted. Beathard was still fresh in my mind. These last 3 seasons....Jesus Christ I don't even know what mediocre QB play is anymore.

Watch any other team play. What Iowa does on offense is fucking insulting to football.

I think it’s more likely that Kirk thinks changing on offense has a negative impact on the defense. Also, he hates the way the game is played and called now and thinks it’s the one that should change.

Was the robotic nature of Stanley something innate, or something coached into him by Brian?

Petras exhibits some of the same traits, but even worse.

This is true, and is why very few coaches should be left in place after age 60.

They don’t want to embrace the changes that have occurred since their glory days.

Nick Saban is an exception.

"Iowa...one of the few places left that has a fullback...hahahahahaha"

Well yes, dipshit announcer, that is a thing, but it's not the issue. The issue is the fullback is FEATURED in the offense more than wide receivers, and that is fucking asinine because this particular fullback isn't very good.

That was before the staff completely whiffs in the transfer portal and asks him to come back

It’s looking like a 3 loss team may win the west this year

Brian also talks about getting his playmakers the ball quickly, then schemes ways to get Monte Pottebaum touches.

You can still win, still have a program culture of winning, still develop men of character, and do it all while trusting and empowering your employees (Phil, Levar, insert offensive play-call) to get those results.

KF does that and embraces the CEO role with more hands off, then he can spend the last few years off-ramping into the sunset and HOF status with a healthy handoff. He could wake up and drink his black coffee and go on morning walks with Mary as they don their matching 2019/2020/2021 Iowa Nike CFP or Iowa 2023 Rose Bowl Champs sweatshirts.

Instead the aftermath effects are that he’ll leave having lost a ton of goodwill, hindered his son’s future aspirations, and left a ton of wins and legacy on the field.

We’ll all look back fondly on his time, just like Hayden, but only after he wasted several years.

Fuck - just adapt and evolve old man. Damnit.

I gave this post a well-deserved like because you DYOR, but 2003 was Nathan Chandler, not Tate.
