“I want Kirk to stay as long as he adapts a totally different approach to his job in his 25th year of employment and his 68th year of life.”

I’d love Kirk to stay too if he did that, I just think it’s laughable people think he can. Watch Spencer Petras run the offense called. It’s HISTORICALLY bad, it’s the worst offense you’ve ever watched, or at least in the discussion. They average 100 passing yards and 57 rushing yards and 7 points per game. And theyve changed nothing and continue to get worse. It’s coaching malpractice, it’s asinine and nonsense. Could Kirk do anything more to show you he’s lost it? He’s out of balance, his worst traits have become his traits.

Is anyone defending sports writers? As far as I can tell, we’re giving the the OSU dude credit for asking a couple of legit questions and that’s about it. Kirk got butthurt to the point of bringing it up out of the blue today. That’s about it though. I’m sure as shit not defending any Iowa sports writers.
There are folks doing it on Twitter. The wagons have been circled if you will with the normal group of twat sports writers.

But those folks aren’t here. And absolutely nobody here….is agreeing with them. Doug’s flipping out on Halo for something being done somewhere else on the internet

It’s like beating your wife because the UPS guy stomped through the flowerbed again

Kirk has always been pretty bad at this part of the job. It doesn’t suit his personality, and it’s making the current situation worse. And someone is currently being paid, specifically, to help him with it. Lol.

"Sometimes asking difficult questions to hold people in power accountable is LITERALLY THE JOB. This is unquestionably one of those times."

Yes, it is his job to hold Kirk accountable. GTFO.

Shitting on a dude probably barely making a living for doing his job when you’re paid millions to suck at yours is certainly one approach.
Holy shit, fuck off today with your bullshit. 12, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10*, 10 wins and he sucks at his job?

You've lost your fucking mind.

how much does Kirk meaningfully contribute to the success of the defense and special teams beyond administrative formality and legacy hiring decisions? his influence on the offense is net negative.

LOL. Now we have Kirk responsible for none of the good stuff yet responsible for all of the bad stuff.

How convenient.

This is retarded
I've learned today that not only has Kirk been a net negative and isn't a good person, but he has just been lucky for 24 years at Iowa. He's also responsible for nothing positive in the program yet responsible for every negative.

These are all totally legit opinions and not a complete overreaction in any way.

What a bunch of fucking retards. I actually do hope Kirk retires, sells his home and then gets the fuck out of Iowa City. We don't deserve him at this point. Maybe he takes Fran with him as well who at least 80% of the IowaFan base would gladly fire him tomorrow as well.

Stupid as fuck fans make Iowa State Cyclone fans look sane.

I mean, seriously, what a fucking fan base filled with complete morons. There are roughly 105 FBS schools that would murder for the consistent success that Iowa has enjoyed under Kirk Ferentz. He's rattled of an average of about 10 wins the last 7 years alone.

The guy is having ONE bad year. ONE fucking year that is barely half over. A year that they still will likely get 6 wins and make a bowl game. He hasn't had a losing year in over a decade. Only had 1 really shitty year outside of the initial 2 years when he started with a bare cupboard in 24 years. Iowa Football has been wildly successful by all non-retarded standards under Kirk Ferentz.

I hate to sound like the old fuck's that were alive to see the 60's and the 70's, but maybe Kirk leaving and getting a taste of what a string of truly shitty years really feels like again is the medicine a lot of people need.

Kirk's a fucking moron that could have avoided this by just either benching or not bringing back Petras, but he fucked up. I think he's allowed maybe one fuck up a decade before the college football world and his own fans hangs him and guts his still warm body.

I do realize that you are just doing your Doug thing.

That said, the problem isn’t that KF made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes.

The problem is that KF either a) does not understand that he has made a mistake, or b) understands but has an ego that prevents him from correcting his mistake.

Or, let me throw out another possibility that has been proven 3 times previously.... he will c) have trusted people get in his ear in about 8 weeks, they will sit down and review the season in full, he will see that it was indeed fucked up and ultimately will make the changes necessary to win at a high level again.

That is exactly what has happened previously. We just happen to not like it (justifiably so) that he didn't see it prior to this season because he was clouded by the 10 wins and winning the division. We hate it because all of us saw it and he didn't. We hate it because everyone is now on an accelerated timeline for change.

All I am saying is that even though he is slow to change, he has actually changed in the past and great results follow. I think he has earned the chance to right the ship one more time and should have at least the offseason to make those changes.

With all of that said, there is no fucking way Brian can return as the OC.

Can't happen. He got a fair shot to do it his way and as the QB coach this year. He actually, somehow, got even worse with the same or better players in many cases.

Demote him to OL coach or TE coach if for some crazy reason he doesn't want to leave the program, but his days as the OC and having any input in the offense are done.

As much as I hate Kirk's decision to continue to start Petras, Doug is right. Kirk probably isn't going anywhere and is an Iowa legend. He's wrong about many things at the moment, but he feels he's earned the right to run the program as it has been run. Kirk has been successful.

This season sucks. We are having a 2007/2012 season and the commonality is abysmal QB play and Kirk's hesitancy to entertain other options.

A much higher premium needs to be placed on QB recruiting, development, and the transfer portal. Our shittiness at that position is affecting everything, including future recruiting and program morale.

He's changed over the years. Can he change one more time to go out on a high note?

Brian has to leave.

It will be hard enough to attract a quality OC when that person has to worry about what Kirk will or will not allow them to do.

You cannot add to that the worry that Brian will be in Kirk’s ear telling him what he thinks the OC should be doing.

Any demoted coordinator should leave for this reason. Especially so if the demoted coordinator is the HC’s son.

I fear you’re learning the wrong lesson from this thought…but just to make sure, the two of you didn’t suddenly become sane about this issue. You’re still being your reactionary selves.

1. Nobody took a shot at Kirk. Only a thin-skinned pussy would think the reporter did.

2. Kirk did take a shot at the reporter. Let’s be charitable and assume it’s because he’s being defensive due to his own systemic failure. The alternative is that he’s turned into a condescending bitch, but whatever.

3. Nobody thinks Brian can or should be fired now. That’s a straw man. The problem is the lack of evidence Kirk sees a problem with the way he’s run, and is running, his office.

Fortunately for him, the media members aren't as dumb as you and know they likely won't find out until Saturday. They will ask on Tuesday, probably get a non-answer and then tweet about who is taking #1 snaps during warmups.
The question that needs to be asked, if Padilla does start by some frickin miracle on Saturday, is whether he took all the snaps with the ones, or if he had to split time with Spencer and thus not giving him 100% best shot of success. I'm not convinced this is a priority anymore, as I think the feel cornered and defensive of Peaches to the degree they care more about his feelings than they do about giving the next man in every opportunity to advance.

tis odd that Kirk holds the QB position to such a different standard than the other positions. In a perfect world, he'd hold the qb coaching position at a similar level.

Having an oline guy coach qbs is like having the PE teacher in charge of the math department.

The OSU reporter’s article’s first paragraph starts off with Iowa being OK making a QB change but won’t consider doing anything with OC until after the season bc KF has built up a “wall of power.”

There are plenty of people that think the change should happen now, including many here and Mr Loved and Defended.

Let's also be honest that the college football world and world in general has lost its collective fucking mind in the last few years and especially this year.

Go back and look at the progression of the coaching changes threads we have on here every year. It was only a few years ago that any coach getting fired during the season was unprecedented and made heads spin.

Now here we are in 2022 and IowaFan is losing its fucking mind that Kirk Ferentz coming off a 10 win season and Big Ten title game appearance refuses to fire his offensive coordinator in the middle of the season.

Why is that? Because programs right and left are shit canning head coaches, coordinators, assistants and more after a couple of games.

It fucking sucks that Iowa chose to have the worst QB and worst offense in the country, but anyone who thought that Kirk fucking Ferentz was going to fire ANYONE in the middle of a season is the insane one, not him.

With that said, it doesn't matter. College football is now a professional sport and everyone involved is going to treat it as such moving forward and I don't think that is a good thing for Iowa Football. In fact, I think it is really really terrible in about every way. The thing that made us attractive as a program is dying right before our eyes.

Kirk has won 12, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10* and 10 games in the last 7 years. Not good enough. Now everyone wants him and his son gone 2 games into this season.

It fucking sucks.

Who would be the best candidate for interim offensive coordinator ?
