"I know we just got Cade McNamara, but you're our guy. Totally."
Lainez was their first offer and the QB they wanted in this class. Labas and May were both down a tier in their previous classes so they view it as McNamara for 2 years before Lainez takes over.

Those were Blair’s words.

Heard from a source Gattis is a go. Not sure what’s happening with Brian, but I wouldn’t think he’d waste his time flying to Jersey today if he was about to be off the staff.
Meh.

yes. And I would also argue that Brian only stayed at Iowa because of his last name. He had numerous opportunities to go elsewhere over the years.
You mean a father and son get along and like to work together? If we could all be so lucky!

Just joined the SWARM. You can all thank me for any transfers the rest of this month. I'd also suggest anyone who hasn't yet joined to go ahead and do so now that it's clear this will actually make a difference.
I was a POS and hadn't donated but after they got McNamara I thought I'd pull my own weight. It will be a nice tax deduction at the end of year. I'd prefer they keep all that member shit and just use all of the money though

Because he wants to do all he can do to help his dad, who he loves, respects, and appreciates what he’s done for his career and life?

jesus fucking Christ people. These motivations aren’t much different than your own. They might have a better/closer relationship, but that goes both ways. Brian hates that he’sfucking Kirk over. He HAS to.

If Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz wants to repair his reputation he'll work as a position coach elsewhere. He's 39/40, presumably with aspirations to be a HC. Staying at Iowa would probably hurt him down the road, which I'm sure he is aware.

If they are tremendously successful in the portal and get some more playmakers on offense, I'd be ok to fuck around and find out to let Brian stay on the team in a non-OC role.
How little pride do you think Brian has? Would YOU stay on after this year if your dad was in charge?

You guys do realize he has another game to coach, right? This is D1 football, these guys don't just pack it in when they feel like it.
No heartless bastard fires their son during the holidays. Let Brian collect his Christmas bonus at least.

Maybe Kirk and Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, wanted to tell Marco in person that Brian was taking a job in the CFL.

In a lesser role maybe. I’m sure Brian wants to continue working with his father as he nears retirement. The alternative is moving your family far away, changing schools, etc.

The potential was always there for this to be ugly and awkward and that’s where we are at.

I’m trying to find info but its a bit dicey. Is the Swarm collective a 501c3 and tax deductible?

Maybe Brian loves UofI football enough to swallow his pride and take a demotion for the betterment of the program? He's a terrible OC but the program's trajectory until this year, has been great with him involved in the program, despite the offense. Who knows. He can't be OC but to run him off if he wants to stay, seems spiteful and not likely to happen, especially with his dad in charge. Wade is an idiot but he's right, he's a really good non-OC coach. Godawful OC. I can't imagine he stays on as an OC. But if he stays in another role, it's dumb to write him off.

i think a clean break is probably best, but BF going back to OL/TE wouldn’t be the worst thing.

I agree with this in principal so long as you are well liked within the building. I don’t know if that is the case among players and coaches or not

For the record, I don’t think Brian is a bad coach generally speaking. He even has potential to be a good head coach given his pedigree and experience. But he simply cannot run an offense, the job is too big for him. That doesn’t disqualify him from being a head coach somewhere.

I was disagreeing with Wade’s dumbass assertion that, based upon Brian’s resume in 2017, Brian was qualified to be OC even if his name was Brian Jones. He was promoted to OC because of his name, not because of his qualifications.

One would need to be a complete and total dipshit to not understand this.

It just makes it really weird for the next OC.

well, various GM’s and AD’s disagreed.

Firing an employee who is objectively terrible at his assigned job is not spitefull, it’s normal and would be done almost everywhere. Whether he “wants to stay” is not relevant at all.

well and widely liked among the players seems quite unlikely

the case for Brian staying on in a lesser role is solely nepotism. it literally never happens elsewhere.

I think Iowa needs to move away from nepotism in its athletic programs generally.

I would lend more to the need to maintain appearances of continuity during a time of transition. His appearance on a recruiting trip that was likely planned for awhile bears no weight to his eventual landing spot imo.

I agree with the Gustang, Brian can't remain on staff after such a colossal failure. The nepotism toothpaste is out of the tube and not going back in. I'm sure he's fine as a line coach. But hypothetically, what happens if the OL doesn't adequately develop under his tutelage and it hampers the OC's ability to coordinate an effective offense? Who would be held to account? As long as the head coach's son remains on staff, that question could not be transparently or honestly answered. That is less a Brian thing and more why you can't hire family members in general thing.

Yes, it would just be a total disaster that no program could ever recover from!

I don't want Brian around, but lol thinking if he did stay on as the OL coach or whatever that it would be some bridge to far. It would be fine and nobody would give a shit.

It would be bizarre and an admission by Brian himself that he can do no better than a demotion to a charity position from daddy.

Matt Campbell offered Manning the chance to take a demotion but he had pride and refused it.

I mean, fuck Brian, but LOL at the entire white washing of his coaching history and ability. He's been a good position coach. He's been a shitty coordinator. For some odd reason way too many people seem really desperate to paint him as the worst coach in football history and the only reason he has anything at all is because of daddy. It's absurd.
