What if May somehow doesnt suck this year?
That would be great. Nothing I saw makes me think that is going to happen though. He is always good early in the season because the other teams are awful and undersized, so he can physically dominate players who lack size and talent.

He still has no idea how to establish the proper pivot foot, he did his usual 2 dribble to the elbow then look confused.

I think Fran did show what he is thinking with his substitution pattern. Woodbury was the first guy out of the game, but he wasn't replaced by Olaseni, he was replaced by Basabe. His secondary lineup after 5-7 minutes of the game looks like it will be Gesell, Oglesby, Marble, White and Basabe.

Woody is not ready to play over 20 minutes, nor can he be on the court at the end of close games.

The fact that we have a lot more scorers on the roster now makes me think May can come in and be defense only kind of guy. That wouldn't totally suck.

I'm about to buy tickets for the 2013 final 4 after ol' dougie's post.
Nah, they are still lacking scoring in the second group. This is a 5-7 deep team masquerading as a 10-11 deep team.

Olaseni, May, Clemmons, Meyer and Ingram are more like single digit minute contributors than guys who are going to make a real difference at this point.

Your real rotation is going to be the following:

Gesell
Marble
White
McCabe
Woodbury
Basabe
Oglesby

When you look at the box scores this year, these will be the guys who dominate the minutes. The others may get a good spurt here and there, but this is your Big Ten rotation and a huge improvement.
I'd really like for us to have another big who is capable of contributing 20 minutes, if necessary. You know Woodbury is going to be a foul magnet, so I hope Gabe continues to progress as the season goes on.
Yeah, I don't think that's Olaseni. You're more likely to see last year's lineup with McCabe or Basabe at the 5 than you are to see a ton of minutes out of Olaseni.

IDK...Fran is pretty high on Olaseni. We'll have to watch a few more games to see but I get the feeling he and AW are going to be splitting minutes.

You are correct about the 20 min, but I think he can be on the court at the end of the game. He is a smart player and will clog the lane, but it is likely that you will see an end of game lineup that looks like this:

Gesell
Oglesby
Marble
White
McCabe/Basabe

Spread the floor with shooters and decent rebounders.

Yeah I was just talking about his free throw shooting but I should also mention again that he has definitely taken a lot of the wasted extra motion out of his free throw stroke and he looks way less awkward now .

The biggest thing they have to beat out of him is putting the ball back down on the floor instead of keeping it high and going back up immediately. He loves to grab a board and then do the head down power dribble. It is the most common big man mistake and many times is because of strength.

Once they get that out of him, he will be even more effective and raise his scoring average.

Didn't get a chance to see the game and I'm not going to read this entire thread.

How did the defense look? I assume they played man most of the game?

When they were actually trying at the beginning of the game and at certain points of the second half, it was fine. Much more intense and swarming than last year, but this team was so terrible that you could't really judge.

In the halfcourt it was really bad in a lot of fundamental ways but they could get away with it because the athletic advantage was so absurd and Quincy couldn't handle being pressured at all. It should be a better defense but it's definitely not going to be a good one.

Woodbury was much better than Olaseni at strategic eye pokes
