ingram has a what appears to be a good first step against a gassed D2 team
Wrong. Why waste an extra year of scholarship on him? Plus with Woodbury and McCabe's foul problems we're likely to have a game or two where we need bodies inside. So redshirting Meyer looks to be a wise move.
I agree. Forget a redshirt - I'd prefer it if we could somehow use two years of his eligibility this year.Wrong. Why waste an extra year of scholarship on him? Plus with Woodbury and McCabe's foul problems we're likely to have a game or two where we need bodies inside. So redshirting Meyer looks to be a wise move.
Apparently freshman candidates could play. Only Uthoff couldn't.I thought if Meyer played he couldn't redshirt. Is that not th case?
Today was an exhibition game. The real deal starts Friday.I thought if Meyer played he couldn't redshirt. Is that not th case?
I know. I thought it was discussed last week that even guys who planned to redshirt couldn't play in exhibition.Today was an exhibition game. The real deal starts Friday.I thought if Meyer played he couldn't redshirt. Is that not th case?
Some reporter did say that, Fran later corrected him. Gesell, Woody, Clemmons, Meyer and Ingram can all still redshirt.I know. I thought it was discussed last week that even guys who planned to redshirt couldn't play in exhibition.Today was an exhibition game. The real deal starts Friday.I thought if Meyer played he couldn't redshirt. Is that not th case?
balance the classes out.Wrong. Why waste an extra year of scholarship on him? Plus with Woodbury and McCabe's foul problems we're likely to have a game or two where we need bodies inside. So redshirting Meyer looks to be a wise move.
If Quincy dies, they die. This was supposed to be.....an exhibition!
100-54.What was the final score? We left early.
Thanks buddy.100-54.What was the final score? We left early.
May Day!!
There were nowhere near 12k there; obviously paid attendance. B&G blowout had similar attendance. We're not where we need to be, but 12,251 for a worthless exhibition is a good start.
I'll believe that. We getting there, though. The animosity of the Alford years is gone. There were nowhere near 12k there; obviously paid attendance. B&G blowout had similar attendance. We're not where we need to be, but 12,251 for a worthless exhibition is a good start.
Adults were $5 and kids were free, so I don't know where they got that #. Season tickets don't include exhibition, I thought. Probably wrong. There were nowhere near 12k there; obviously paid attendance. B&G blowout had similar attendance. We're not where we need to be, but 12,251 for a worthless exhibition is a good start.
Yep. 1997 they lost a Exhibition. Brandon Welsch, as a true Freshman walk-on, had 11 points in a loss.marathon oil says fuck you
Nice summary and very encouraging but saying Woodbury is a 10-year NBA vet after one exhibition game brings back memories of people saying Jaacks was going to be drafted after we upset Kansas at home. Obviously not the same situation but might be a little overly optimistic this early on.Here were my overall impressions.....In honor of Match, I will state the obvious that this is an exhibition and you can't tell much from these games
- Gesell is good, like going to be one of the best to ever play at Iowa good. Better than Dean Oliver, Jeff Horner or others as a Freshman. Great kid, total control, athletic, smart, loves basketball, competitive, and can shoot.
- Marble and White know that they are good and were on cruise control today, but they are both going to be great. They both seemed to play
- Woodbury is a game changer. Great passing out of the post, changes shots, smart with the ball, outlets and runs, hustles his ass off. He is going to have games where he is overmatched and gets into foul trouble, but I think he is a 10 year NBA vet.
- McCabe looked much better and seemed to be lighter on his feet. I have been down on him, but he plays smart, hard and seems to be improved.
- Olaseni is athletic, but he is still a complete pussy and doesn't finish well. Will play about 10 min per game.
- Meyer is a fish out of water this year. I think he will be good in about 2 years, but is a definite redshirt and possible transfer at some point, especially with Uthoff coming in next year.
- Clemmons played like shit except for about 30 seconds. Made poor decisions and looks like a Freshman. He will be a really good back up PG in about a year.
- Eric May was his usual self. Looked good against smaller and inferior competition because he is bigger and can dunk. Did the exact same thing he has done the last 2 years.
- Basabe obviously hit his ceiling as a Freshman. He is still a complete garbage man and doesn't finish strong because he is undersized. I want to see him play with the first team to see if that helps. I think he could be the ultimate garbage man when on the court with Woodbury, Gesell, Marble and White.
- Oglesby will save this team at certain points of the year. He can shoot.
- Fat Pat won't end up redshirting and will have some games when he scores some points.
The effort level and intensity was way up. I think that they will be much improved on Defense. My guess is they will end up going 8-9 deep instead of 10-11 deep during most games. The second unit has some serious drop off and scoring troubles, but that will be fixed as players are mixed together.
Gesell ends up being the star coming out of this game.
Oliver Miller kicked the shit out of Reggie Evans that one time too as part of the Globetrotters.marathon oil says fuck you
It was streamed online. Not sure how you see Woodbury as so much better than Olaseni at the moment.
Did you watch the game today? Woodbury is light years better than Olaseni in pretty much every aspect of the game. Not sure how you see Woodbury as so much better than Olaseni at the moment.
Thanks Doug. It all sounds very encouraging. Here were my overall impressions.....In honor of Match, I will state the obvious that this is an exhibition and you can't tell much from these games

Nah, they are still lacking scoring in the second group. This is a 5-7 deep team masquerading as a 10-11 deep team.I'm about to buy tickets for the 2013 final 4 after ol' dougie's post.
Bowls of it, I'll eat. What if May somehow doesnt suck this year?
I'd really like for us to have another big who is capable of contributing 20 minutes, if necessary. You know Woodbury is going to be a foul magnet, so I hope Gabe continues to progress as the season goes on.Nah, they are still lacking scoring in the second group. Olaseni, May, Clemmons, Meyer and Ingram are more like single digit minute contributors than guys who are going to make a real difference at this point.
Your real rotation is going to be the following:
Gesell
Marble
White
McCabe
Woodbury
Basabe
Oglesby
When you look at the box scores this year, these will be the guys who dominate the minutes. The others may get a good spurt here and there, but this is your Big Ten rotation and a huge improvement.
