I’m still baffled at benching Purdy in the 4th quarter. Iowa State is down by three scores, nearly a full 15 minutes left.

Purdy is “the guy” you’ve been pumping for two years, the team is on the biggest national stage that they have likely been on… and rather than show your guy a bit of confidence you let him watch 15 minutes tick off the clock while you run the “roll over and die” offense on national television.

WTF Campbell.
Just an observation, but in the first 2 weeks of the season the Iowa defense has completely destroyed 2 supposedly Heisman contender QB's. Purdy was beaten, done.

If they get just get their running game fixed, that defense will pry get them to 8-9 wins in a shitty B12.

Texas is got butt fucked by Arkansas today, the rest of the B12 looks like garbage outside of Oklahoma.
Oklahoma has a garage defense

I know TOE is what these dejected fucktards call Iowa, but I don’t get it. What does it mean?

Here’s what needs to happen. First, it needs to be miserably hot and annoyingly windy all day. Then the game has to be terribly boring where ISU can’t muster up any offense and Iowa slugs out a boring yet convincing 17-3 win. Lastly, ISU needs to lose their shit late in the game and get two or three embarrassing, lashing out personal fouls. Maybe have their fans litter the field with garbage in disgust.

The goal here is to have every ISU idiot that attends leave in a totally defeated state while realizing that investing one cent, minute or iota of emotion in this shit show is a horrible idea that should never be repeated.

I’d root for a weather delay but don’t want to be greedy.
Other than the lack of personal fouls this was pretty fucking accurate.

And they essentially did the same thing defensively against the Cajuns in last year's opener. He's a pyramid scheme salesmen: he believes in the same kind of surface motivational bullshit that PJ Fleck peddles to shitty insurance salesmen. He's a good coach but he's not smart. At all. That field goal on 1st and 10 with 30 seconds left is another prime example.
I agreed with the entire post but the bolded. It absolutely was the right play. Make the field goal and onside, get 20 or 30 yards in 20 seconds and have a chance at a Hail Mary to tie the game. Incredibly slim chance, but still a chance.

Keep going for the touchdown from the 30, and one doesn't have time to get a chance to get the ball back for a possible field goal.

In short, any needed field goal would be from that distance. A touchdown is still needed, much better chance on a single play from midfield (with the prior field goal) than the touchdown taking valuable time, plus the same field goal.

Today we witnessed the end of Iowa State as we know them. It was the last chance they had to ever elevate themselves above Iowa in a way that would matter on the state and national stage.

It's over. The Big XII breaking apart was the coffin door closing and today was the nails driving home in every single way possible with the maximum number of people watching.

It's done. I no longer give a shit about them on any level. I no longer care about playing this game if it does continue. They could beat Iowa the next 5 games and it means nothing.

What we all witnessed today was Iowa State being smacked with cold reality and put in their place while everyone laughed at them while they were doing it.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

I wouldn’t say I was happy to see the FG, but I was glad to see a coach actually understand that you should kick the FG early instead of dicking around for another 38 seconds and leaving yourself only 9 seconds.

CF is just pure gold

I still wasn’t impressed with Iowa today. Both games they’ve been gifted turnovers. If our WRs don’t have stone hands 3 of those picks just don’t happen. Not sure what happened on the fumble, that one might have been a good play. Also thought the first INT ended up being legit although initially was looking for a hold/PI

I like this one, personally...

Iowa is going to be in a good bowl game. They are good this year, and their schedule is soft like always. They probably won't play a top 15 team unless they get into their CCG. But they had two consecutive weeks with TOs turning into double-digit points. That isn't sustainable.
They are always such sore fucking losers after this game. If only the Hawks were in the epic B12, they'd be playing Top 15 teams every week! lulz

I'm guessing that Iowa moves up to #6 or #5 after today.

Ohio State looked terrible and lost. Texas A&M and Notre Dame barely hung on to win. Clemson already has a loss and Cincy is Cincy.

#5 seems about right.

I think Campbell is a good program building / recruiting / developing coach but he is a pantshitters gameday coach. Loses composure . Makes rash decisions when things don't work out.

The sign was fine. Them going through several different buildings and a high school smoke machine to get to the field brought the lolz though.
We will...get clowned on Game Day.
We will...get our shit kicked in by our biggest rival in the biggest game we will play this year.
We will...have our lack of NFL first round picks used as a trivia answer.
We will...

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in ISU homes when Davis and Herbstreit openly agreed with Tyler Goodson that this game is indeed Iowa State’s Super Bowl, that it means more to them, and that they absolutely need it for national relevance. Followed up shortly after with a trivia question that highlighted their inability to ever have a player drafted in the first round.

This was all more savage than I could’ve imagined.

This isn't a me being pissed off so I started another thread, thread. I'm looking for real answers.

How are we so bad in so many areas? No wr gets separation. TEs absent. Offensive line got no pushe. The amount of tip of balls that led to TOs, etc.

We played 90% of the game on our own half.

Defense was great. Offense was, all things considered, the worst performance, I can remember.

With these players, with this experience, HOW does this happen?
Yes, this clown is totally right.

Iowa's punter pinning you deep constantly and the Hawkeye defense, that has now forced 7 turnovers - plus quite a few dropped INTs last week - as well as 18 direct points off those turnovers, had absolutely nothing to do with your struggles today. Not. a. thing.

Idiot losers.

There were so many collapses happening today by the Cyclones it was hard to keep track of all of them.

You all talked a big game....hyped your team all summer long...and then they came out and couldn't do ****. Your Heisman hyped QB crapped all over himself to the point he had to be pulled from the game. Your Heisman hyped RB couldn't be trusted to hold on to ball when someone brushed up against him. Your 1st round TE catches the ball and immediately searches for an excuse to hit the ground.

You guys got a little taste of success last year and rather than understand it takes a lot of breaks for non-elite teams to have that kind of success you acted like it was your birth right to have Top 10 teams going forward for eternity.

You got the big stage....ESPN College Game Day...nationally televised on ABC with their #1 crew calling the game....and showed the country what you all really are. And then the greatest fans in the world bailed early so they could have some more Busch Lights and slink back under the rocks they crawled out from.

Essentially, each and everyone one of you can GFY.

Never in my life have I witnessed a more disappointing performance.

Iowa State was dominated by Iowa, falling by a final score of 27-17. Dominated is probably not the correct word choice, but when Iowa State cannot get out of their own way, there is really no alternative that is more fitting.

The Cyclones outgained Iowa 339-175, but it did not matter.

Three Brock Purdy interceptions and a Breece Hall fumble are ultimately what cost the Cyclones, along with some awful Corey Dunn punting.

Brock Purdy was benched late in the game, as the offense could not keep up with very good play by the Cyclone defense.

There are really no positives here; Iowa State got clowned by ESPN and College Gameday, only to get clowned on the field by the Iowa Hawkeyes.

This one is going to sting (and stink) for a long, long time.

Take it easy, folks.

Tory Taylor might be the best Ferentz weapon in the last 23 years. He's fucking perfect and is going to put Iowa in position to win games they wouldn't usually win.
As I said during the offseason thread

I can't imagine he would retire while Tory Taylor is on the roster.
Considering Tory Taylor had never played a game of football prior to last year even with a regular trajectory of improvement that would mean our opponents' average starting field position after punts next year should be somewhere between their 1 and 2 yard line. Good times.
