Completely suffocating win. Offense looked reasonably good in the first half and basically took the air out of the ball in the second half, especially after the turnover.

Should be around 15 next week. Still a lot of regret about Minnesota but with three more wins, they should get to 10ish I would think. Next weekend’s schedule has a few potential upsets but not a ton to move up if the favorites win.

RG3 is fine in my book. Iowa has kicked ass when he’s calling games.
My level of RG3 hate is like a 3 or 4/10 at most. He’s a dork, but completely harmless. I simply answered a question….then some dipshit that named himself @champion_thedrinker decided to have a little hissy fit. Kinda weird

Won't miss that.
I think their right tackle exhausts as much energy shifting from the left to the right as he does blocking anyone.

I’ll give NW a little credit, they had a ton of plays that looked like they were going to gain significant yardage that Iowa somehow stopped for minimal gains. The open field tackling was very good tonight.

The new Ryan Field is fucking awesome. There are no bad seats in the place. They all have seat backs and the food choices are Gibson’s, Frontera, Luxbar, etc. I think the furthest seat from the field is like 150’. It’s one of the best non-Kinnick venues to see a college game. And yet they can still barely fill the place unless it’s a BT opponent located in the Midwest.

Definitely worth the drive from Iowa IMO.

It was a fantastic experience.

Great venue wasted on a shitty fanbase.

Again, great Iowa win but it's wild how when they get up 10 or 14 points right away they just go into full on shut down mode. If there is a subsequent turnover during that? Holy shit just fully shut it down.

Defense this year has been awesome, but they just don't turn anyone over at all. The turnovers they have gotten this year are usually in garbage time or weren't really their cause. Last week was a good example of that, one that they got was the Wisconsin QB simply dropping the ball on his own, another was a meaningless INT on 4th down up 30-0 and the final was a strip and recovery with a couple minutes left.

Offense is turning the ball over like crazy in a very uncharacteristic way while the defense is forcing nothing in a very uncharacteristic way.

Would be awesome if that evened out in the last 4-6 games of the year.

Doug is right, you don’t see many 7-2 teams with a negative turnover differential on the season. But that is exactly what we have with our -1 differential. With a defense this good, you’d expect a lot more turnovers forced. It’s pretty insane, actually.

I can't tell if it is just the natural swing of things where Iowa is in the portion of it where they are giving more than taking and it will even back out soon or if there is more.

While there were a couple times tonight where they could have intercepted the ball, mostly it seems like every team just doesn't make dangerous throws against Iowa. This defensive system has been around for so long with so much film on them that maybe other teams are scouting out no-risk throws.

I'd be interested to hear from those who went, how full was it?

Capacity is 35000. How many were truly there?
I’d guess 25k and I actually wouldn’t be shocked if it was close to half Iowa fans.

Stadium was cool, but games at Northwestern are always devoid of the typical college atmosphere.

Would agree - That was a pretty great place for a November game.

Man would it be fucking awesome if it evened back out though.
I just went through each game to see how many interceptions the other teams starter has thrown on the season and there’s not a lot of turnovers other than 2 of them. Underwood has 6 on the season and Iowa picked him off. Lindsey has 7 and they picked him off. Everyone else is 5 or less in 9 games.

Iowas played 3 games where the QB isn’t exactly asked to throw anything over about 10 air yards against Iowa State, Wisconsin and now NW. Washington, specifically the second half, is the only one that you could argue they should have but it was also a QB they didn’t spend much time preparing for.

There also seems to be so few throws over the middle anymore where tipped balls result in a safety ending up with the ball. It’s just crossing route after crossing route or a ton of check downs to the running back. NW had three 3rd and less than 4s where they completed a pass but didn’t pick up the first down.

Our safeties were in perfect position to have at least 2 interceptions but for some reason appeared content to simply knock the ball down. So much so I was questioning down/distance to make sure it wasn’t 4th down.

Shout out to Luke Gaffney and Will Hubert being approximately 10,000x better than I expected. Tough, unsung, block-eating bastards who hunker down and hold their ground against bigger men week after week.

It was cute that Chip Kelly thought he could confuse Phil with a bunch of gimmicky shifts.

Our D was beating them to the spots in getting lined up correctly.
All those shifts were completely pointless because Hawthorn and Gaffney were just shoving their guards straight back into the QB on any traditional drop back pass. The only chance they had at throwing the ball was faking an option to the right and rolling that QB to the left. It rarely gained any decent yardage once Iowa adjusted to it.

I wasn't able to watch the game and only saw the 15 minute highlights, but was curious on a few items:

-How did Phillips become the guy at RB in this game? Believe I saw Williams with a catch and that was about the only mention after being the guy against Wisconsin.
-Holy shit our guys are fumbling like crazy. Um, why?
-That Drew Campbell call kind of looked like bullshit, was it legit?
-Appeared Iowa was getting a lot of pressure on defense, was it just a shifty QB who was great at escaping several sacks?
