I really like watching the games in 60 on BTN. It really shows the flow of the games much better. IOWA had a crushing illegal formation penalty right before the half negated a first down that ended up being at least a 10 point swing as they were in field goal territory with a fresh 4 and over 2 minutes left.

Then Van Kerkerix missed a free shot on Sayin allowing him to unload for the long TD to Smith to make it 24.
Manson is athletic enough to not miss that.

I truly believe the illegal formation was the difference between a game in the fourth quarter and getting blown the fuck out. Those are the margins on which we live as fans of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.

They likely still lose, but at worst it's 10-6 at half and more likely given the down and distance with the way they are moving the ball it would have been 10-9 at half. I do think you are correct that if the TD at half doesn't happen, then the game going into the 4th quarter is something like 17-9.

Either way, having Smith is the biggest cheat code for a team I have seen in a long time. Iowa got Ohio State in multiple 3rd and long situations that 95% of the time are stops against any other team in the country and Ohio State picked them up like they were nothing.

Would ohio state be that much worse without smith? Theyd then have to rely on their other 6 5-star wrs.

I could line up in the gun and throw jump balls to Smith and throw for a couple TDs. Sayin can go fuck himself. He had several terrible reads and throws that he knows he can just get away with because of that freak.

Agree, I think besides Smith that’s one of the weaker OSU teams of the past decade. Still very good but not title good

Their transfer RB is a really good complement to Smith. That defense will be hard to run on too. But Sayin and the secondary are mediocre

Getting shellacked by Ohio State is probably less concerning than Minnesota beating Michigan and WVU running for over 7 yards a carry against an ISU team that held Iowa to 3.2.
WVU had that success running RPOs with a super athletic QB averaging over 100 yards rushing/game and over 6 YPC. Plus a RB that had over 1600 yards rushing at Jacksonville State last year. Very different look that Iowa, causing very different problems for the ISU front 7.

Another big missed opportunity is the wasted offensive possession after the terrible decision to go for it on 4th down at midfieldish by Day. Seemed like an opening at the time.

Manson is a mechanical engineering major. I'm guessing he's smart enough to understand the "complexities" of playing the basic defenses Iowa employs.

Is that what you learned playing touch football with your marine buddies?

They don't have as many stars, but it's still a deep team that will finish in the top 4. I refuse to get too upset about Iowa sitting 4-1 with a loss to the #5 team in the country.

If they win at Washington they'll achieve the 2-1 record in this 3 game stretch that everyone said was important to the season.

I think people are getting nervous because Wisconsin, NW and Nebrantska look good.

After 3 years of playing 5A HS football the scouting report on Manson was physically gifted but soft.

I’m sure he’s totally ready to be a starting LB in the big10 as a true freshman though.
